I'm a bit sad. This used to be (and I hope still is) the friendliest forum in the world. Over the past few days it's broken my heart to see so much bickering and sarcasm going on in several threads. What the hell is going on??????
I like the jokes, banter and smart @#$% tongue in cheek comments. I don't want group politics and crap. Though I don't know many of you yet, my swag has always been a family of sorts. You might not know faces but you get to know members through their posts. All this rubbish makes me feel like I'm in the middle of a school ground fight.
Lets all be friends again hey......please ???

It's just the evolution of a forum.
You can only control what's in your space!

Glenyse I would have to agree, as well too much politics has been coming in, and cheap shots that leads to more comments that don’t help.

What the hell is going on??????
I missed most of it. Seemed like a strong personality didn't like the umpires decision or something and went to play cricket somewhere else.
Happens from time to time.
As Dan says, forums evolve.
If you cant play, or dont like the rules then why give yourself an ulcer. Move on and be happy.

Dazzler it wasn't just one thread I was referring to unfortunately. No way I'll give myself an ulcer over this, I just wondered if anyone else was feeling the same way as me. I just think it's a shame really.

The ulcer wasnt about you. It was a general comment that if someones not happy with a forum then they may as well move on instead of 'getting an ulcer'.
And it is a shame. Normally such a happy place :D

I could delete the contentious threads and return the forum to its usual staus quo of community harmony if you want. No skin off my nose. 8)
Those threads have survived because the membership mostly prefers a no moderation approach. Well they got that and now some are lamenting it has happened.
Some said at the outset that the threads were c$%p and should be zapped, but I think it has been a good excercise to see how they panned out.
To me these threads have done no harm and have resulted in some comraderie being restored and a bit of laundry being put out to dry.
Ths does happen in all families from time to time.

Nope don't want them deleted Snow. I think the mods have done a fantastic job of managing and not over managing this forum. Maybe you're right about the family spat thing - everyone is entitled to a say and there's bound to be disagreements every now and then.
I guess my point was that I just didn't want it to get to a point where you went to a myswag camp and had to pick sides or be careful what you said.
Maybe I shouldn't have even bought it up in hindsight.
 Glenyse

Can we have more google image banter now? ;D

If you feel that strongly about it post it.
If nothing it shows that at least one person on here cares for others.
But I think you will find (as has been mentioned) that spats among the members will happen from time to time.
Not everyone can live in harmony with everyone else.

Glenyse,
I started a similar thread a few years ago in the forum feedback section when a few things were changing with regard to the personality, direction and size of the forum (this thread has since recently been deleted, but not before it ran its' course). It highlighted a lot of what people were thinking at the time including myself, and as Snow put it, aired a bit of dirty laundry and gave the admin and mods a bit of feedback as well.
If there were more Myswag get togethers organised, where people could attend and put a real personality to a username instead of a perceived cyber image which you get over the net, I think the angst might be reduced. A lot of the time people get the wrong impressions of people only because of a misconceived idea of their ideas brought on by a poor wording in a post.
I always find that I can understand the direction of thought of most peoples posts better if I have spend a bit of time with them at a meet or around a campfire.
It's much easier to disregard the feelings of a person who you have not met, than those of who you have, and post accordingly.
I'm not always very good at selecting the right words to express what I'm thinking, nor am I good at restraining what I'm thinking, with a bit of a "say it as you see it" approach, and I have no doubt this comes across in my posts as a bad trait quite regularly.
I've always enjoyed the company of the Myswag members I have met, have also enjoyed organising a meet or two, and most of all love contributing to the information, both technical and travel wise on the forum threads, and hope to continue doing so well into the future.

The main thing is that you have met me (and a good effort that was to), and now you know to treat my grumpiness accordingly.
D4D, you are nothing like the person your online persona conjures up, but rather you are an easy going, genuine person, with a heart of gold.

It's not easy to words things in a way that doesn't offend anyone and I don't expect happy families all the time - in fact that would be pretty boring.
Although we've been members for just over 12 months (not long in the scheme of things), we've only managed to attend one myswag camp due to Scott's roster. I agree you get a better handle on people's personalities when you get to know them personally rather than on here so we're looking forward to meeting a lot more of you before too long.
I am definitely not judging anyone here :D I just thought a few threads were not in the usually light hearted character of the forum and I wondered if it was just me or if others were concerned about the direction they had taken.
Anyway I got it off my chest so all good now.
 Glenyse

I was going to keep out of this, but I've had time to have a "think" over lunch. So here's my take on the last few weeks. NB: It is not aimed at anyone, just a simple view of things OK? Good
I reckon what we have is a good old fashion dose of Cyber Gastro. It works just like the real thing, but online. Stay with me here, I'll explain the theory. Just like regular gastro, a bug gets in the guts & before long some(any) one comes down with the $hits. As it happens , a few people hangin' around also get infected & next thing you know everyone is spittin' & $hittin' over nuthin'. Follow? OK. Then , just like real life, after all have had a good clean out things settle back down again. You still get a bit twitchy about certain "foods"(threads) but in a short time all is recovered & life goes on. You know there is a risk that if you "eat " the same "food" a relapse may occur, but you "eat" just the same 'coz you like the"resteraunt". If all else fails, a Bex powder & a good lay down may be required.
 Dr Frog ;D

I must admit, I didn't like D4D much before I met him.
Now that I've met him, I like him less.

I'm another who often has trouble finding the right words to express my thoughts, Often this happens in person too. Another thing is a voice has inflection and tone, These are not portrayed over the internet' So it's easier to get the wrong idea of the intention of the poster.
There have also been some contentious threads lately (I wont mention QANTAS) that will, Along with politics and religion, Polarize people to one side or the other. In my opinion the mods have done well with these threads, But when they degenerate into a slanging match or personal insults they have to step in.
I agree. It's getting old fast.

Dr Frog,
I took a bex and had a good lie down. Will this cure me????
Banter is great, but with a forum you can't get a tone or feel across (except with some of Dans pictures occasionally!!!! wot the?)
We all read it wrong sometimes or misinterpret. So What?
If I don't like the thread I stop reading it.
Lets face it a heated 6 B&S dc to dc thread 6 months ago would have involved lots of ranting and a call from the fire brigade.
Now we all laugh about it.
Myswag owns me and my wife will testify as a widow any time........... ;D
Roll on more banter, tips and those absolutely fantastic photos..............
Keeps me sane in the trudgery of working life......Now roll on early retirement so I can be one of those cantackerous cranky be$tards putting up photos of where I've been and teasing all the poor people who have to work for a living!!!!!!
I'll raise my temporary myswag flag - you know the one with a picture of a jayco in the corner and the southern cross in the middle, and raise my glass at the same time. I'll then christen the campfire as I light it, in honour of our saving grace the carbon tax!!! >:D :-* >:D
Cheers
Brian
(for those of you who can't understand the tone, sarcasm and humour of this post- can I suggest a stiff drink and loosen up!)

Thanks Steve. Kind of you to say.
I guess what Gunna Do said rings true. In person we are often different to online.
I wouldn't mind my slate wiped clean and to start again please.
I'll save my judgements till I'm standing by a campfire and having a beer with someone.
See you all out there doing what we love.
Oh, good one Bevan. Trust you :-)
-
Righto, have you lot noticed something ?? No?? Think about this then.......
In the last 1/2hr or so, most of you who have read the last few posts most likely had a little chuckle & probably feel a little better about things. Makes me think that humor is like flatulence, share a bit & the pressure goes away ;D. Time for happy hour now
-
I think this forum is one of the greatest places to spend time (other than camping) and it is full of many great people, some whom I have met and some that I haven't had the pleasure to meet yet.
I am definitely one of those who does not set the best tone with the words I choose :-[ >:D but I wish to assure you that I intend no disrespect or ill feeling toward anyone on this forum when posting, I just get very passionate with some issues and find it difficult to show restraint ;D
EDIT: I would like to add that my comments made on the forum, albeit sometimes confronting would be mirrored in face to face conversation, I am not one to hide behind the keyboard. If anything my comments are censored somewhat when posting, because I can see what I am about to say.
Like I said already, this forum and it's members are great people, but at the same time we are all diverse in our thinking which mostly makes for good discussion which can go a little too far occasionally >:D and that's where the mods (who all do a great job) step in to keep this the best forum :cup:
bubba

Hi,
Hmmm! Guess I missed the %$# fight ( or it went right over my head).
Top marks to the moderators, must be a very time consuming job, trying to read all the posts must be like trying to drink from a fire hose.
Love the humour on this place - the Mrs often looks at me with a quizzical eyebrow raised as I convulse with laughter at some of the witty come-backs. Some of the one liners are first rate comedy.
Now I wouldn't mention that I'm parked out in the scrub under a largish moon, clear skies, camp fire just dying down, full belly and feeling very content, 'cause that would really annoy some who aren't, so I won't.
cheers
