Has anyone used one of the swags that "Jungle reef Outdoors" advertise? They are advertised in that same catalogue with the Techni ice and Eskies. $259.00 for a double swag, 2150mm X 1450 X 800, delivered to your door. They say RRP is $695.00 Value for money they look very good.

No idea but unless it's a 100% Aussie brand then the rrp price sounds a little inflated to me.
In saying that for $260 delivered you can't go too wrong, particularly if you're trying the swag thing for the first time, at least you shouldn't lose too much if you end up selling it again.
I think the design should be your first consideration...like how it opens, if it has full mesh, if it's traditional style or more spacious and tent like.

We did that recently, brought a down under dingo double, happy with the quality and design but seems a tad "too cosy" in there for two people, definitely no room for .....your imagination.

Anaconda have a Burke & Wills swag on special at the moment. A bit more expensive but you know it's made in AU.

Go the Burke & Wills swag, don't have one myself, but have seen many up close and in use and I swore to myself next time I want a swag a Burke & Wills is what it would be no matter the price.

Thanks for the advice fellas.

Had a look at the Mr Swagman swags, no mention of the canvas being Australian on his site, Made in Aust from highest quality materials doesn't mean it is Aust canvas. I think if it was they would be boasting that fact. And $400.00 dearer.

I don't use a swag very often so I think I will go with the $259 option. I have a single flat swag for 20yrs, but need a bit of extra room these days, plus I may be able to convince the better half to join me as well.

I've got an OzTrail swag that is very similar to the Dune, with three sets of poles. Was only $199, and for how often I use it has been brilliant.

Jolly swag matilda compact/biker. I would easy spend 60 + nights in it a year. Keep an eye on ebay and you will get one under $20

Have had both, If its really really really wet the PVC comes into its own.

Have been places that have been reall really really wet.

I do have one I bought it when Anaconda had a $ale on it was pretty good value I think.

I had my first swag for 20 years that is used as roof bag now from time to time

I made one a little while back, 12oz with PVC bottom - 1200mm wide for a bit of extra room. It's been working really well so far! I don't have a pic of it on its own.

Having never owned a swag I've always wondered about how good they are in the heat, the wet, against insects and for those of us that are slightly....shall we say.....claustophobic.

Several mates rant and rave about them. This Burke & Wills jobby looks great and I reckon I'll check them out. There doesn't seem to be a store near Coffs Harbour that stocks them, so I guess I'll need to wait until I next visit Brisbane. :'(

I use swags more than my camper.
PVC Floors are better in wet conditions BUT canvas floors breath better.
I use PVC floor, on some occassion when sleeping in very cold conditions you need to make sure you air out any condensation under your matress.

Im with alnjan, we have a Ultima king and its comfy and quick to set up no cliping poles around and its made 100% local. You can sleep under the mesh
cover or throw the canvas cover sheet over if its cold or raining

I've had my new Burke & Wills Coolabah outside all week hosing it down and letting it dry out. Had a good rainstorm the other day and not a drop inside so it is well and truly seasoned now.

My question is what do you use as bedding inside the swag? I've got a down sleeping bag and silk liner and I was just going to use that. Any issues with this idea?

My old swag could have set itself up the dog wouldn't even go near it

I just use a sleeping bag and a pillow. I leave it in there all the time, I don't take the sleeping bag out, yeah I know you should but I just never have. In my camper I have a $5 polar fleece blanket that I sit on the doonah to keep the condensation off during winter I might grab another one for the swag too.

I've found Aussie Swags really, really good and I highly recommend them. Come larger than double as standard ... many, many extra's. Smidge more expensive than all those mentioned, but benefits outway the expense.

Spent yesterday traveling between the three big name camping store's check'n price's in preperation to look for a bargin at caravan and camping show on monday. Had time to check outback canvas for a swag, not a bad look'n swag , but not quite what i'm look'n for. The best one i have so far found come's from SA have spoke'n to this bloke John Wilsher and check'd out his gear and it look's top's. The price plus delivery is not much dearer than buying a local one, but there seem's to be a fare bit of differance in quality.
