What do people think of the Travelander???
« on: November 26, 2010, 12:01:42 PM »
Hi just wondering what people think of the Travelander. Everyone talks about the Ultimate but as far as I can see not many discussions on the travelander. To me it looks a good easy setup trailer and a bit cheaper than the Ultimate. The thing I like about them is the kitchen is on the outside. Love to hear any feedback if anyone owns one or if you know anything about them.

L2GA,
We looked at these acouple of years ago, but I was a bit concerned about warranty and back up as there were precious few on the road at the time. The website had conflicting specifications (mainly suspension type) which did not instil a lot of confidence. I liked the unique idea of a side fold and the remote control pack and unpack though.

They're an interesting unit, good for a mobile couple. It's a big walk up to the bed and the beer fridge is a long way off the ground.

We looked at them (the slide-on one) when we were looking for a slide-on a few years ago.  I hated it, can't put my finger on why. It just didn't feel good somehow, things didn't seem to be in the right places or something.  Also that big mechanical "knee" beside the stairs - I bashed myself on it when I went up and down the stairs.  I've noticed since that they've got a big padded cover to put over it so it must have been an issue with other people too - one more thing to pack and unpack and take up space.

The other thing we both didn't like was the remote control opening and closing - something else to go wrong and it shouldn't be necessary, ours is manual and easy as pie for one person because it's properly balanced and sprung.

I've never met anyone on the road who has one, so don't know what others think of them. That was just my impression as an interested prospect.  I've looked at them just out of curiosity at camping shows since, and still glad we didn't buy one.

From memory (and please correct me if I'm wrong), the Travelander's are made in China.  We checked out one in the flesh a while back and the quality wasn't quite at the same level as the Ultimate's.

So we decided to keep our $$$ in the country and bought the XTRK.  Glad I did.

Cheers,
George.

They are made in Qld. I checked into this.

I would also be interested in any new feedback.
I am looking into getting one. Apparently they are or have come out with a different fright set up. I have a large fridge and hope that woudl fit into it.
