I remember ringing a number on his website to order some dvds and actually got him on the other end. We had a good chat for 15 minutes. Very tempted to order the complete dvd pack.

Malcolm Douglas was an idol / hero of mine growing up as a kid, I use to enjoy his shows on that docu show "the world around us" its an absolute tragedy he is gone. I wanted to holiday in Broome to for the privlage of meeting him, unfortunately it never happened. The best I got was an autographed photo /picture of him holding a small/medium size croc across his shoulders.

He  was one of the last true remianing real bushman who actually knew what he was talking about.

I'd trade a million ,waste of space, loser humans for another Steve Irwin/Malcom dougulas ect ect.

 At the risk of sounding insesitive, some humans are worth more than others !!

most of these so call bush experts now are hyped up amercianised bullShit artists chasing ratings and quick buck. Malcolm Douglas was doing it all his life and learnt his skills from being in the bush.

the last one that was advertised wasn't on. it was in my EPG, but it was just some crapola xfactor or some other Shite on 72 at that time

Last night I got to watch one of Malcolm Douglas's earlier adventure documentaries "Across The Top".  True adventure back then, without all the comforts of home, and travelling in a knockabout old Landy, living and eating with the locals.

Watching the section where they were trying to recover another vehicle using a vehicle mounted winch on each vehicle as well as a hand winch, with a mass of winch wires running through numerous sheaves was an eye opener, and would give any safety officer plenty to shake their head at.  But it worked, and got them out of trouble.

Does it really matter what you have?  If you are out enjoying the outdoors in the way that suits you then why does it matter?  Come to think of it I don't think he had a Kimberly, Cub or any other such creature either.... :cheers:

I have liked all of the Australian bush traveller/animal shows. It started for me way back with Vincent Serventy and his family travelling in a big old Yank sedan. The car always made it, no matter where they asked it to go to. They had the little tackers with them as well, and yet they survived lots of anxious moments as Vincent wrote his papers on various subjects. Yes, it is sad to see them pass on, especially when they go tragically.  :'(

Whenever I see a 4X4 with lots of camping ear and kit on board, Harry Butler springs to mind.  :laugh:

"Across The Top" was made in 1967, and the flashest thing Malcolm had back then was the old Landy, and the only Kimberley he ever camped in was over in Western Australia.

Any idea if there is a Malcolm Douglas DVD collection available?

Would love to see some of his earlier stuff again. One that sticks in the back of my mind was a boating expedition where the boat was packed to be brim with 44 gallon drums.
