Hi to all you Swaggers. Not long ago joined this forum and must say heaps of good advice and all for free. How good is that!! Well anyway thought I would start a new thread. Interested in finding out just how many Swaggers are in the CQ region or thereabouts.

Hi Polar Bear,

We are in Bargara. Quite a few of us in the CQ area but you'll find that most are a quiet bunch.

We have a get-together everyone now and again so just keep an eye out for the next one. Or better yet, suggest any of your great, secret camping spots and we can come and check them out!

Hi Les and Jules, Symon and Karen,

Good to know that there are more out here. I have been in Tannum for about 9 years now and unfortunately dont know many secret spots locally. Grew up in Bundy but was forced to leave in 84 due to no work. Certainly have some great memories from this area though. Isnt it funny though that you live in a particular region however rarely go camping in the local area. We tend to go further afield when we did get the opportunity. Had my first real experience with camper trailers only a few years ago and as usual the want list and the reality list are two different things, hence the fact I have been building my own camper for the last 5 months. Soon will be looking forward to getting away for some local weekends due to the new found convenience of camper trailers. Hook it up and go!!! Other than camping my other great recreational love is fishing so have tended to go to these type of spots. Some of the family are not so keen on fishing so looking for some alternate spots. I would welcome the opportunity to catch up with some of you in the future so are very open to suggestions.

We were actually heading out to Stanage Bay in a few weeks.... apparently the fishing is pretty good up there - about 2.5 hours from where you are.

I'm from Gladstone as well, but currently in Tasmania doing the motorhome thing. Certainly feeling a bit cooler here than it has been at home.

There are lots of places to go around this area. Cania Gorge,Kroombit Tops,Rules beach,Five rocks the list goes on and thats just around the Gladstone area....

Central West here but at the moment in Stanthorpe (yeah u read it rite), heading off though from here tomorrow and heading to Inverell, for a couple of nites before heading (well at this stage) to Lake Eyre area, (we will be away three months, make that just over 2 months now)

We are out at Emerald. There is a bit to do out here as well, Blackdown Tablelands, Carnarvan Gorge, Salvator Rosa, then futher away to Longreach etc..Cheers

Good Morning all,

Thanks for the replies you have named some good spots. I have done a day trip to Kroombit and came down the southern end of the range. I believe you can go through some old logging tracks in there and get into the back of Cania Gorge. Anyone been that way and would you tow a trailer? Also see Blackdown named and have wondered is it suitable to camp with a camper trailer there? I tried to go to five rocks once but we only had a normal trailer behind a prado and someone before us had dug really deep tracks and we couldnt get through.Bugger. Will try again one day. We have been to Canarvon and will one day go around the back to Salvator Rosa etc.

We used to go to a spot called Eurimbula National park. Usually very guiet and a great spot if you like fishing and walking along the beach. Easy to get in there these days.
Annie you must be sucker for punishment. Your supposed to go north in winter. Did you go to Sundown while in Stanthorpe area.

Anyway keep the suggestions coming and hoefully will get to catch up with a few of you in the future. Maybe we could plan a trip to one of these locations.

Hey PB, last time I went down that track on the back of Kroombit it was a bit of a goat track, wouldn't recommend the trailer as there are some tight turns. Blackdown is almost all sealed now so very easy for a CT.

Five Rocks in my opinion is still nice to look at but it has really gone to the dogs now that NPWS has got their way with it. If you go shortly after rain you shouldn't have too many hassles getting a trailer up there.

Polar Bear actually we have enjoyed the weather here since being here. It did get down to -5 twice at stanthorpe but the days where lovely.
Was to leave here (Inverell) today but the lad wants to buy a canoe (yeah more darn gear, and here i am always in trouble for buying stuff), so now have to wait until tomorrow. Did get the tie downs and stuff we needed to tie it down to the top of the camper with today. I actually like it here more than up there as the temps are closer together down here than what we get in winter up there.

Tomorrow we aren't sure how far we will get but the plan is to head across towards Lake Eyre but then again u will never know where we will end up, once we hit the track, had a look at the map today and I realised where Lightening Ridge is so u never know we mite even get there, but then it tends to be two against one at times for where we go.

I think I will go for a bit of recon on the goat track. I have built the trailer to handle anything within reason. My view is if I can get there in the ute I should be able to get the trailer through there.
In reference to Five Rocks I will try again as I will be much better prepared this time.

My reference to Blackdown was more re are the campsites suitable for trailers. Shouldnt have any problems getting in there just unsure about size of sites

Hi Annie,

Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Just a little Jealous at the moment. Working heaps of hours at work. Hoping to lock in a destination or two for the September school holidays. Unfortunately only myself and the boys will be going as the wife has just got a new job. I will have to plan a weekend before then as the wife would miss out on the maiden voyage and we cant have that. We were planning on going down towards Broken Hill but wont happen this year.

Polar Bear we are bunked down on a river near Morree tonite. We will be staying two nites here now, the weather is for raining tomorrow but we shall see what tomorrow brings.

If you plan a trip out our way at all just sing out and we can find u somewhere to stay on the property we work on. We won't be home until the end of Sept but that should be just before the holidays. (well i think thats if we don't get lost).

Today was lovely we arrived here around 3pm and we have been in shorts and teeshirt, mind u hubby has lived in shorts and long sleeve shirt since leaving home. It's now cooling off and the camp fire is going.

We were up at Blackdown last year, before our CT arrived so we were still in a tent, but there are several sites that are big enough for a trailer. There were 2 parties with CT's there that weekend.

Sorry this is a bit late, we did the track from Cania Gorge to Kroombit Tops last year with our camper trailer.... it was a slow trip with a few steep loose climbs

Looking to pick your brains on Canarvon Gorge area.

Been reading up a bit, and it seems to be very popular. They only open the DERM camping area during the school holidays?

What is the takarakka bush resort like?

I had been wondering whether to camp at either Nuga Nuga NP or Mount Moffatt to avoid the masses and use that as a base for exploring the area.

Any advice?

Awesome fishing spot Symon we have been going there twice a year for the last 28 years
you need a boat if your going fishing as undersized fish are in plenty if fishing off the bank
and the free camping is a bonus

Mt Moffatt is a great place with four good camping grounds, the Ranger there is a real nice chap to. Salvatore Rosa is also great, all depends where your coming from I suppose.
