Hi Garrick,

They look really good! I'd like to see what you would use a 305m long cable for!

I may have a slight suggestion for you, if you'd be interested? My old man used to make us up cables just like these as bike locks when we were in school. To stop the stainless rope knocking paint off or hurting the helmets, he'd run the rope through some clear PVC airline - kind of like a thicker version of what you use with aquarium air pumps. Worked really well, and was easier to handle. It certainly didn't add any strength of the cable, but just made it much more user friendly.

Good luck with the endeavour - I'm sure you'll have a bunch of orders in no time as I know if I had expensive solar panels, I'd want to ensure that they couldn't just go walkabout.

Good luck!
Matto :)

If there is some intrest in plastic coated wire I can source some 3.2mm and swage the ends as above, costs would be around the same as above, PM me for a quote.

I would prefer a plastic coated cable, just to eliminate the possibillity of the cable scratching or damaging anythin in transit.

Now, Can you clarify the price for me, If I order a cable at any length between 2 meters and 10 meters long it will cost me $22 plus postage?

Cheers
Darren.

Garrick,

Nice idea, will most likely PM you once I sort out what I want.

Hem.

P.S. Just a tip, dont make the plastic tubing too neat on the rope as it gets harder to slide on the greater the length. Better to be fairly loose.

Plastic coated cables are now available, they are pre covered so the plastic is bonded to the galvanised wire. See photos and price on the first post at the top of the page. 10m lengths are the longest I can get at the moment, I have a couple of suppliers which I will attempt to get a longer cable at a reasonable price.

Quick question....do you remove the plastic from the coated ones at the end before swage?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, steak in one hand, beer in the other, body used up and worn out, screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Yes, plastic is stripped back to allow it to be able to fit into the ferrule on the end. The cable is 3mm and with the plastic coating it is 5mm.

Looks like that's the way he prices them? Maybe so much a meter would be easier?

Hi Garrick,

Is it possible to have different sized "swag ends" so that you could loop one through the other?

That way you could do away with one padlock & almost double the range of the cable?

Regards

Mark

That would be possible, i could make a larger loop in one end and have the other end as per the photos above, the larger loop would not have the thimble, it would just be a loop of cable swaged off. Just let me know and I could make it up.

Hi Garrick,
With the cables that i made.  I have one Stainless Steel Thimble that is bigger than the another one so you can poke through and    slide  it all the way to the end this makes  a loop  then u padlock the opposite end
So you can use the full length
that way you have 2 ways locking the cable

I have made the pricing structure more simple and added a picture of an open end which will allow for the cable to be passed back through itself which saves a padlock. Please see first post on page 1 for further details. For those that have purchased cables, thanks again for your orders.
