If you know how to solder, then all you need is a cig plug, a length of wire and a plug that suits your TV. Otherwise the premade jobs are the go. Just checked your links, for $9 I'd probably buy the premade job.

i might actually get the top one, and have it so that it's permanently wired into the hawk. that way it's not taking up a cig lighter socket (or as much room in the cupboard).

Is the fact that it's unregulated (and therefore going to be supplying >12v) likely to cause issues?

Depends on the device, if you have your charger on whilst watching TV you'll probably be pumping 13.7V into it. If you want to do it properly get one of these http://dicksmith.com.au/product/M9889/car-power-dc-adaptor-1-5-12vdc-1-5a although it is only 1.5A so may not have enough juice.

Put in another vote for the bush TV ... I video a nice campfire crackling, frogs chirrupping, creepy loons looning, with my camera ... load it onto the lappie ... and when it's raining ... we watch that ... or play Micro Connect 4 (it's gotta be the smallest connect for on the planet) or do the horizontal waltz (I'm allowed to say that??).

I got this years ago when I was a kid. It had a strap to hang it around your neck, but it busted ages ago. I've never lost a piece, though it would be easy ... Can't remember exactly where I got it, but you could ask at your local toy or novelty shop.

Each to their own but my idea of camping is to leave behind as much of the crap that you dont really need from the material world behind and get back to the basics. We take portable DVD players for the kids for wet weather and bed time but otherwise we encourage them to go exploring and find some natural entertainment, we sometimes take the laptop to keep up with the news, check weather reports, investgate potential destinations etc, but not usually for general entertainment. Time spent when camping is a fantastic time to bond with your family and friends without the distractions of the material world and our country has way too much to offer to waste time watching TV when your'e out amongst it.

But thats just the way I see it

Fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion though me personally, I don't see much differentiation between having portable DVD players or having TV. They are basically the same. What is important is how and when you use them. Watching a movie is no different to the rubbish on TV. We take ours primarily for bad weather to entertain the kids but again, each to their own.....Anything is moderation is fine IMO....

Last sept school holidays we were camping with a big group of friends at inskip point who were all footy fans, during the day we would explore and fish, and come night time on the weekend we had the keg fire burning over looking hook point(fraser island)

, in the back ground we had a tele showing all the finals footy (go the tigers) other campers around us had there radio's on in there 4wd's. To me this was great fun and for these times I think a tele when camping it great.
