We thought we would do a early vote in the upcoming WA elections to beat the crowds and save time so headed down to the early voting centre.
Collected our pile of handouts and was directed to one of the officials to get our forms and names noted. No problem with mine, name noted and ballot slips handed over. Then
my wife was asked her name etc. Official asked her to repeat her name and address, looked at the laptop screen amd asked how to spell surname. Told same as mine and spelt out first names.
The official asked if she was enrolled to vote, and when did we last move house, wife said yes and it was 35 years ago.
The official gave me my slips and told my wife to go to the supervisors desk and ask to be checked there. No good, no mention of my wife on any WA electoral roll and again asked about residences, name changes etc to be told that no name changes and been in same house for 35 years. No issues in any previous elections, local, state or federal.
Seems that for some reason unknown to the electoral official there my wifes name has been struck from the rolls. Official also stated that its the first time hes ever come across it and how hard it is normally to get your name removed even if you wanted to.
So spent another 20 minutes filling out declaration forms, effectively re-enrolling to vote and we were on our way.
