Anyone picked up Covid again recently?
« on: December 25, 2024, 11:53:30 PM »
Had a tickle in the throat last Sat night and woke up feeling crap on Sunday with a temp burning throat nose running like a tap and watery eyes with a headache behind them. Slightly better Monday morning when I thought I wonder with the news articles it was getting around again and went looking for leftover RAT tests in the cupboard. Expired 20 Nov but sure enough the 2 black lines said positive and although I'm heaps better Xmas day the 2 black lines are still there although half as dark so with me quarantined the missus had to do Mother Xmas with the mob down the coast at the beach.

Checking online you don't have to report it to anyone but having had my shots and still had Covid originally like the many I was a bit shocked I'd caught the current wave again and wondered how many in the same boat are out there? I believe the news reports now but don't know who or how I caught it again (metro Adelaide)

PS: First time I caught it with the wife too was attending a niece's wedding in Melbourne after Covid lockdowns and most of the wedding party and guests came down so that was obvious.

There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

I copped it for the first time on a cruise in September. I am fully vaxed so the effects weren't too bad. Worst part was that we had a drinks package as part of our fares and I couldn't face alcohol. In fact I couldn't think of alcohol for about 2 months afterwards. I eventually sought counselling and recovered from that aspect

I am advised it is rife in the community at present. I have a mate battling it in hospital and he is very ill. He picked it up in rehab as he was recovering from back surgery. I continue to hear daily of people around us coming down with it.

It is politically sensitive I think to talk about it so the pollies and others don't like to mention it.

Had it last week, Julie flew to Sydney with her mum and two girlfriends, they then rode the Indian Pacific to Adelade. One if her friends had a cough and became worse while in S.A., .......... I picked them all up at Brisbane airport 5 days later and within 3 days everyone was down with it.
Not bad, more like a cold, sore throat, a few aches and pains, runny nose and a bit of a matelic taste in the mouth. It's my 4th time >:( , but the last three have all been like a cold !

Hi,
Mrs was + 3 weeks ago. I got it from her I think but didn't bother testing. It was pretty grim for both of us.

I've only had it once, around 18 months ago. I managed to get it when it was no longer fashionable :-[.
I don't go out much and everywhere I worked when it was rampant was really cautious about letting it into the workplace, even having daily COVID tests there for a while and paid COVID leave (on top of any sick or annual leave) if you, or anyone in your house were positive.

A bunch of guys I worked with got something in late 2019 that put them all on their arses for a week. No one knew what it was, but symptoms were similar and I'm sure its more than a coincidence that they were sharing a luggage carousel at LAX with a flight that had also arrived from China.

SA is just about to reach a million cases of covid, since it started in 2019, plenty of it still in the community. Both my mother and mother in law have had it in the last two months, both in residential care where it is still a problem for the elderly.
Neighbour works for a major intellectually handicapped, Down’s syndrome organisation, plenty of Covid, RSV and flu like illnesses hitting them.

I've been lucky and only had it once and it laid me up for two weeks and affected me for months afterwards.  :(

I found out yesterday that both of my parents have picked it up. :( 91yrs and 86yrs, so I'm hoping that the meds that they are on helps lessen the affects on them.

Im still suffering from my first lot since caught it boxing day 2022.   Came down with long covid about 2 weeks after getting over the first infection.
Feeling a lot better now but still suffering aches and occasional brain fog. The brain fog was the worst of it. Lost ability to speak for a short while , but it still lingers as although I know what I want to say, the brain cant come up with the word to say.
Been getting better since Dr put me on Naltrexone.

Wasnt good, but Im a lot better now than 12 months ago. Couldnt go 2 hours without a nap and ached all over.  Even when able to go out, its embarrasing when you ask for something simple at a store and the words dont come out.   I wasnt as bad as some long covid cases though , some lost use of their legs.  Specialist just says it will get better but when first saw him he said a few months, then 6 months. Now he says " who knows"
Lots of theories as to why but specialist says its the body reacting to the antibodies it made to fight first dose of covid.  Its a lot like chronic fatigue or Ross river virus  which is why Naltrexone seems to help.

Very similar to Malaria which ive had twice that i picked up in East Africa, had no energy and just wanted to lie down.
Partially lost vision and i ended up in hospital in Zimbabwe , took at least 6 months to get over it and 3 years later it got me again.

We had a trip to England planned for a month for July last year, about $8,000 invested in the trip. About 5 weeks before we were due to leave, the mrs had a night out with the girls. Yep, started getting crook the next day, tested positive on 3 RAT tests over the next few days, and ended up spending about 3 days in bed really crook and another week to come good. The day after she first tested pos, I did too. I felt like I had a really bad cold, but that was about it. I was crook for about 3 or 4 days all up, but then OK.

We both got the anti-viral pills from the chemist (after doc consultation by phone), and had both been fully vacced and me 1 booster, her 2 boosters. To be honest, the booster I had made me feel worse than actually catching Covid, which is why I'd only had one.
