Spray Wash Foams

Spray wash foams seem to be popular thing at the moment.
Heaps of different brands and the pricing can vary greatly.
Reading reviews in different discussions, the pros & cons seems to get lost in the typical brand wars.
What are you thoughts on them?

I have used them, they work ok, pressure vehicle then suds wipe down and spray again. Has the advantage that you dont need to carry a buck of detergent around washing the car that way.

The issue I find is if the car is crimy and the first pressure wash doesn't remove it then when you wipe down your scrubbing the car with the crime your taking off. With a bucket and a hose you can wash of the grim you remove with a running hose as you go.

This is why I dont like auto car washes, your washing your car with dirty brushes.

Same for other car washes plus they recyle the water, someone goes in and washes their car engine or wheels with acidic cleaner then you come along and wash your car with the recyled acid water.

I bought one of the snow blowers down to $45 from 120... bowdens snow foam -it makes great foam. but doesnt do much in the way of cleaning

I also have the Borden’s snow blower, it removes light road dirt successfully, but hardened on mud and dirt really needs softening and pressure washing first.
Works well for a show car that doesn’t get real dirty and your worried about swirl marks in your paint from to much cleaning and polishing.
Not really suitable for 4wd  mud and dirt.

An experienced caravan repairer advised me against using these type of products on caravans, campers etc as the detergents are quite strong and will penetrate seams and cause corrosion.  FWIW.

This was what I was interested in.
I was thinking the chemicals they use could be harmful to some of the sealants, glues.
Not just modern vehicles, but older ones aswell.

My father taught me to hose off as much as possible be for actually hand washing the vehicle. Even then if I had to empty the bucket and refill with freash water again, to do so.

I've never taken a vehicle to a car wash.
I'll use a pressure washer for under Neath, never for the paint.

It really depends on what you want to use.

I use Bowdens products. They have 2 snow foams:
Snow job - PH neutral and won’t damage anything. Safe on ceramic coatings, PPF etc.
Mega Snow - Not PH neutral, heavier duty cleaner. I find it does a better job on my 4wd when dirty.

Both are designed to be a “pre-wash”, not a one and done product. They are used to break down the road grime and remove particulates before then doing a normal hand & bucket wash with a “car wash” product.

Other brands have released a few one and done products, but I don’t use them so cannot comment on their suitability.

I used to use Auto Glym polar blast, however found that, for an unknown reason, the bowdens seems to remove more in the pre-wash then the Auto Glym for my car. The Auto Glym used to work better on my wife’s old car (2008 model) than Bowdens, however with the new one the Bowdens seems better - this is purely non-scientific based, so not worth much.

i use "CAPTAIN SALTY" on the alloy boat and the car gets a wash at the same time, so far,so good. it does a good job no issues
