UHF channel stickers

I have recently completed a fairly big trip to the Northwest- Exmouth, and noticed how hard it was to communicate with some of the people towing caravans and campers, basically I didn’t know if they had a UHF or not. It got me wondering how many have a UHF sticker on the back of their camper?

And these are normally the mongrels who dont have mirrors to see whats behind them and sit on 85-90 klm on highways... The number of vans and campers on the Bruce Hwy without mirrors to see what was happening behind them was ridiculous. No wonder people get pissed off with the migration of the wobbly box road blockers.

Ha ha. Heading that way later in the day. Sounds like situation normal on the Brand and North West Coastal highways.

I don't mind if the caravanners travel at 90kmh, I just wish they wouldn't travel in groups of three 50m apart.

Just give me some room to leap frog.

Somebody should tell them they won't get lost if they lose sight of the van in front.

Up until a couple of years ago driving to the Cape I hadn’t had any trouble with Caravaners, but after a month on the road dealing with these guys I was about to pull my hair out with then driving under the speed limit only to speed up on overtaking lanes.

They have their stickers on the back saying this is Ken & Sue and we are on channel **, but never replied when the truckies called them up. Luckily I didn’t have the kids in the car as it gave me great pleasure listening to the truckies starting off my asking nicely and not getting a reply, but by slowing down even more indicates they can hear the request and then the tirade of abuse that followed from the truckies was truly priceless.

9 times out of 10 they suddenly allowed the truck to pass at the next overtake lane

Our van came with a ch 40 on the back and we do have a uhf. Your right, it’s never on because my wife can’t stand the crap the truck driver talk about.
Such as I’m a unicorn etc. makes you wonder sometimes when you hear the stuff they come up with.

Easily solved...take the sticker off !!

I find the truckies to be awesome and they are so helpful when you need to get around them. It’s not the solo caravaners or people towing campers, it’s the groups that don’t leave any space between them. And yes I’m sure this has been covered multiple times. I really felt for one truckie who called out “Harry and Mildred are you channel” three or four times with no response, we came to Harry and Mildred as well. They appeared to be traveling with three other vans at 75kph, we also tried to get them on the UHF with no luck. We finally got past the group and then heard “Mildred we’re going to pull over for a coffee and cake”. It beggars belief that they can’t be bothered to respond to a real call.

Rossm - if you’re heading into Exxie there were some delays with roadworks last week. Hope you have a grea trip.

I use channel 18, but still have to turn it off in cities due to truckies swearing their heads off on it.

Only turn on UHF when needed...hardly ever

90 is the new 100, just did a ten day trip sittin on 90

Mirrors, get used way more when the bride is driving which is around 50% of the time

Did a 13hr road trip on Monday for work, to my surprise two truckies help me with overtaking them....they used their right hand indicator, I flashed them with high beam/spotties.........worked out well.

Now the police radars don’t have the 10% leniency rule and speedos not being overly accurate, I think a lot of people feel that their wallet is safer sitting on 90.

Therefore the manufacturers deliberately make them read slow, so they don’t have liability for reading over.
That means if at 100 you are 10% out your doing 90 and most with standard tyres are according to the 4 gps that I use (my gps have less than 1klm/h variance between them) are driving at low 90’s in the 100 zone
So at 90 you are doing 81klm/h

I should have clarified, in my instance I was traveling 90km/hr using GPS which is 95km/hr on the speedo....or there abouts.

Car is running standard size tyres but the brand might be slight taller over all.

Got ya overs and unders mixed up.

I changed the wheels and tyres on my troopy, for a more readily available tyre size. So now, when I'm reading 100KPH on the speedo, I'm doing 99 by the GPS. Doesn't leave any wiggle room if you get careless.

The Territory is the same, & we also had the in-Laws Avalon that was exactly spot on, but the Forester was pretty well 10% - 100 indicated was ~90 actual.
