"Vintage" Stereo equipment . Value ??
« on: December 29, 2019, 03:47:09 PM »
Cleaning out the back room and have decided to declutter which includes a variety of old stereo gear.
Would anyone know of a site to get  idea of value as looking to sell at least some of it. Mainly turntables but also some amps and others.

https://www.hifishark.com/ May be helpful too. You can change currency to $AU under filters, but their conversion rates for some countries are a bit off at times.

As with most things, depends on brand, age and condition. I have restored a couple of late 60's early 70's 'stereograms' and the value of them is pretty minimal. That said, you could be sitting on a real gem... I'm not.

My favourite completed project is a GE Diplomat stereogram I bought for $50, spend about $10 on bits and I don't think it would be worth more than $50. It lives in the shed. The other completed project I was given as the person was having a clean up. It cost me about $5 for bulbs and about $20 for a stylus. Even being a nice HMV stereogram cabinet it is probably worth about $50.

The third is a bit older and was given to me as it doesn't work. Being an old valve radio, it is a long term project. Not sure if it will ever be worth too much, but fun for the challenge.

Anyways, have a trawl through a couple of the audiophile type forums. That will give you an idea of the collectability and maybe value. You might have a real gem! Good luck.

Some of the stereo components from the 60's and 70's can be worth in the hundreds per unit, depending on brand and condition. Anything pre 80's is worth checking out. And even some of the newer stuff can be worth money too.

Thanks guys for tips. Need to declutter ( make space for more crap ) Mostly its turntables and your right some are worth a bit like a Denon turntable Ive got but wont be getting rid off.
Once I make up a list of what Ive got Ill start searching.
Sold this week a few old radiograms STC and a AWA , both worked but needed cosmetic repairs.

Used to have a 73 vintage Sony TA1055 amp. Got sick of changing the pot sliders as they got scratchy. Saw one for sale for $300 the other day. Hope the guy who picked it up off the rubbish day pickup values it. Was a lovely old amp.

Still have my Technics SL-120. Bought it new in the late 70's. Need to drag it out and get a phono pre-amp.

So that's a SL-1200, sold without a tonearm? Nice turntable, which arm did you fit to it? I have a Technics SL-1700 Mk1 that I aquired rather cheaply a little while back.

Yes it is a SL1200 without an arm. Good pickup..
Direct Drive in all it's glory.  :cup: :cup: :cup:

I bought it with a Grace G-707. I can't remember what the initial cartridge was now but the needle was worth more than 2 months wages when I bought it. I replaced it with a Stanton 681eee.
Was quite a combo in it's day. Have been offered serious money for it but it is staying in my stable.
The one you have is a nice table too. No wonder the Technics were the DJ's choice for many years.
