Hi,

Have recently purchased a Lifestyle Breakaway 2 Plus unregistered, with camper located in Coolongatta.
We'll be driving up after Christmas to collect and plan to spend a few weeks coming back to Victoria (home) along the east coast.
Difficult to source the exact info from the relative roads authorities web sites and phone hold times are longer than I have atm.

Any ideas on best course of action for our situation?

 :cheers:in advance ;D

I think your time frame for the return journey is the issue. You can usually get a permit to take it straight home.

VicRoads don't really offer a permit for your situation.
They have a single trip permit. Is Qld to Vic, and is only good for up to 7 days, basically enough to do the trip with a day or 2 spare
The other is for the purpose of getting it registered, time frame varies up to 28 days.  That will allow you to get it home and then the running around needed to get it registered, eg repairs RWC.
Both rule out "You cannot use an unregistered vehicle permit for social or domestic purposes"

You should also be getting the print from the state you start in, ie Qld.
"If you need to drive a vehicle from another state (except Western Australia) to Victoria you need to obtain a UVP from the relevant state in which your journey begins."

Knew a bloke who was looking to do basically the same a thing a few years ago. He was planning use the camper on the way back (which I am assuming is what you are talking about). Due to the time constraints on permits (as has already been mentioned) he got to the conclusion that it couldn't be done so he got it trucked down, registered in his home state and then took it away.

Thinking outside the box here ;D

Could you get hold of a car trailer, put the unregistered CT on that & tow it home that way ???

Stop where you want & either set the CT up still on the trailer or bring it back down to ground level ???

Depends a lot, of course, on what you're towing with!

If it is from a dealer ask them if they have a trade plate you can borrow for the trip and then mail it back to them

No reg No insurance either.

Getting something new then personalizing it to your requirements isnt done over night. Trying to work out something your not super familiar with can lead to a lot of frustration.

Me, I'd pick it up and head straight home. Here you can plan, play work out all the ins and outs, and if it gets to much you can walk away knowing you can start again later.

Things just like hoses, then tap connection so easily over looked. Chock to level the camper, bla bla  bla.

Your right Pete.   "Unlike other states and territories, in Queensland double demerit points do not only apply during holiday periods. People who repeatedly commit specific offences will receive double demerit points for the second or subsequent offence if the later offence was committed within 12 months of an earlier offence."

Even more reason not to do anything silly over the holiday period.

Double demerit don’t apply to unregistered vehicles as there is no demerit points for a light vehicle.
An unregistered trailer will cost you $686 in NSW.

Get the current owner to get it registered at your expense.  Purchase trailer, get rego papers from seller.

Travel back to Victoria at your own leisure. When back into Victoria go through process of transferring into your name.
