ATV Tow Behind Flail Mower

Has anyone here had anything to do with such a machine? I've got a side x side 4wd ATV and am thinking it would be somewhat quicker and a lot more comfortable than my trusty ride on mower.

Hi, I have a polaris ranger xp 900, I also purchased a polaris rough rider trail mower to smash my 10 acres.
Slashing has never been so much fun, jack Daniels in the can holder, stereo going flat out. There awesome, small pain in tne ar$e trying to get close to trees, now I just poison 1m round all the trees, slasher great at 20km/hr
I picked it up second hand with 10hrs on it.
I'll post up a pic of it tomorrow, it will be out after the recent rains.

I have experience with hydraulic drain flails on excavators and a versatile. I wouldn’t want to sit anywhere near one. They also have a relatively high maintenance obligation. You haven’t lived until you pick up a run of fencing wire in one. 3 seconds of fun, 6 hours of hell.

l have seen the results of a flail picking up a length of lamb ring lock fencing after we put out the grass fire . Two Days later there was another go

GBC, I'm fully aware of the "Rotary Device vs Fence Wire" situation 
Luckily, there isn't a fence within cooee of the intended use area plus, the only fencing we have on the property is dog fencing, for wild dog reason.
From your 2nd sentence, I take it that they are efficient at creating projectiles?

Yes mate, they have a relatively high rotating mass and the sheet metal on that tow behind one doesn’t look too heavy duty to me. We use them for clearing scrub/mangrove (under license) etc and you aren’t safe out to about a 30 metre radius when they are in the air. 2 foot sections of tree trunks going everywhere. Down in the drains they are safer. A tow behind isn’t going to leave the ground though so it would be rocks and dead sticks it will pick up. I’m not saying don’t do it, I don’t know your circumstances. If you are eating up wattles etc they are ideal. For general grass cutting they give a poor cut and will lay down grass which would otherwise get cut by a deck machine. And they throw stuff about pretty aggressively in the right circumstances.

The main rock I have is quartz, which fractures easily. A good/bad thing. Good, in that there is minimal, blade contact damage and bad, in that there is a lot of shrapnel fired out. My ride on has 7mm thick blades and will easily send a golf ball sized piece 30 metres. I'm not too keen on the idea of stopping a junk with the back of my noggin or having to wear a helmet.
