Camper trailer mattress replacement

Good evening all,

After a lovely weekend camping at Stevenson’s falls I think our factory foam mattress has reached the end of life.

I’m considering an inner spring replacement from somewhere like

Just bought a second hand camper and looking to do same as the one in it is cactus.
I’ve found something on Kogan (comes up under camper trailer mattress replacement search) that might suit. Obviously not made to fit so will need to just go double and deal with the gaps around the edges.

We got one made at the mattress company in Yandina QLD for ours, it was a bit pricey but I honestly think it’s the most comfortable bed we own. I can’t remember the details of the mattress, but if you want more info let me know and I’ll hunt them up.

We use a mattress  topper as a mattress from Crazy Sales on the net, we can only have 100mm thickness due to the rear fold camper trailer. The mattress toppers come in differect thicknesses  ours is 50mm of high density foam with 30 mm of gell on top, total 80mm,  then fitted with a foam mattress topper from Clark Rubber, we have spent near 6 months on the road over the last 18 months its just as comfy now as when we fitted it in the camper.

Start with a topper as suggested by others. Around $300. I bought the MM mattress first, then added the topper.  In combination they are the equivalent of our home mattress. So try topper 1st, may be all you need.

Hi JR,

If your travel cover has plenty of room you could look at "normal" mattresses as a standard queen size inner spring will probably fit.
We had a low profile inner spring and found it too hard so replaced it with one off a bed at home. Worked a treat.

Still have the original low profile inner spring and you are welcome to it. No charge but you organise freight/pickup you can have it.

A few years ago I replaced our foam mattress with an innerspring mattress in our Jayco dove. A normal mattress was too thick so needed one that was approx 100mm. Making Matresses, Koala could make something but prices were $800+ from memory. We ended up getting a new Jayco one for just under $400, pretty bloody comfy too if you like it a bit firmer. Was same size as a standard double mattress..

We went down the path of getting one of those inflatable mattresses and used a 12v pump. Worked really well which surprised me at the time. Saves on space and weight when travelling also

We grabbed a 100mm QS memory foam mattress from Clark Rubber and added a quilted mattress topper as the mattress was a little bit firm but very nice now.
