Anyone in or near Geelong?
« on: February 02, 2019, 06:45:39 AM »
G'day folks. I'm starting uni in a month, doing civil engineering. All online, except for 2 times a year when I have to be in Waurn Ponds for a week at a time. Been looking into airfares and accommodation and it looks like it'd be cheaper for me to drive down there and swag it (even in a GU!).

Thought I'd check in here and ask if anyone lives in the area and has a patch of lawn I could put my swag on for a week from Sunday April 28 to Saturday May 3. Would be much appreciated. Otherwise I'm looking for the closest campground or roadside stop I can legally sleep in if anyone has any suggestions.

Cheers.

There's a few around there, but I'm aiming for cheaper than dirt if possible. I'll be at uni all day, I'm sure there's a gym there that I can shower in, eat canned food and whatever I chuck in my 50L fridge. Then at the end of the day drive until I'm somewhere I can toss my swag out, sleep, then go back and do it again.

When I lived in the states I went to uni in Milwaukee for 7 years doing my bachelor's and master's, usually 2 days a week because I still had a full time job. It was about an hour's drive if you skipped heavy traffic, so I'd leave at 5am, get there at 6, go to the library and crunch out schoolwork until classes, stick around until 7 or 8 at night and then head home. I only really need to leave the campus because they won't let me sleep there.  ???

G'day Hookie, I'm in Grovedale about 5 minutes from Waurn Ponds and have a spare room that you can crash in.

Well you sir, are a bloody legend! That's a very generous offer. It's a pretty major thing to not have to worry about, I was looking at a couple of freecamps at Inverleigh otherwise.

I'll send you a pm with my details. A thousand thanks!

I hate to expose my ignorance, but I had to look that one up. Of course anyone who puts me up for a week is getting a box of his favourite brew, goes without saying.
