Where to buy Flexible cable guide
« on: August 19, 2018, 09:03:02 AM »
Anyone tell me where I can purchase a cable guide similar to this one? Need something to keep a fridge power cord out of harms way.

Cheers, John.

I got mine from eBay, took a few weeks to get here from China but I guess that is pretty insignificant in comparison to the time it has been now waiting for me to fit ot.

What did you search for on Ebay? Having trouble finding what I want.

They are called "Energy Chains".
A quick search found these guys I have no association with them.

I have never heard them called Energy chains before (although they obviously get called that too) but from the linked page

Quote
Energy chains are also commonly referred to as power chain, drag chain, cable chains, cat track, cable carriers etc.

Here is a link to one seller https://ebay.com.au/itm/AU-Black-Nylon-Towline-Cable-Drag-Chain-Wire-Protect-Carrier-CNC-R18-R28-R38/311763716823?hash=item489690cad7%3Am%3AmJnrnevGP3qkA5VVg1IS3wA&var=610650630205

A bit more searching might find a cheaper seller.

Edit, Just realised you have already found one but I'll still post this anyway.

We used to use Bretby cable carriers...but they are used for cables that are approx 100mm diameter..and weigh approx 1 ton for each cable..

For anyone with a slide out fridge, they are a great idea !!

Cable Trunking, RS Components is one supplier. - https://au.rs-online.com/web/c/?sra=oss&r=t&searchTerm=e+chain

punch e-chain or cable trunking into ebay and a fairly wide range should come up.

Your post was the catalyst for me to install mine, more than once my fridge cable got caught in the end of my track which can result the track trying to slice through the cable and ending the associated fuses life.

Murphy's law had a big impact on the installation though and it took a lot longer than expected, certainly not perfect but serves the purpose.

Can you open that track up to put the cable in, or does it have to feed through the centre gap ???

Normally the energy chain clips open to allow access for laying in what ever they are to be used for.
Being an energy chain they are used for all types hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical energy also for data and control.

I had my cable catch in the slide so I have now fitted a slit cable protector over it, available in 7mm, 10mm 12 mm diameter etc. anybody who sell auto elec supplies should carry it, bought mine from jaycar.

I use a cable tie...

Attaches the fridge 12vt feed to the ceiling of the tunnel; off to the side - about 30cm before the inside door frame of the hatch...  (The anderson is at the opening side wall of the tunnel)...

Has never fouled - operates smoothly...

I have the same on mine, key holder or pass holder from Officeworks. Retracts by itself and deploys as the fridge draw pulls out. One end cable tied to the back of drawer unit, the other end cable tied to the cable half way, works a treat

We use them on our swipe cards. Clips to your belt and retracts.

I fixed one end to the cable and the other to the cargo barrier above the fridge. As the fridge slides in, the cable retracts lifting it away from the slide........

Fairly easy on the surface, but a real pain changing a cable underground !!

But, the cable's big enough, so no voltage drop at the fridge !! ;D
