*NEW* Outdoor Connection Tanbar Air Touring Tent

Sorry it's been a bit between posts. I hope you've been camping lots!

Things have been a bit hectic here!  A couple of weeks ago I went to the Outdoor Retailer Show in Denver, Colorado USA and before that the Outdoor Retailer show in Sydney Australia. 

They were both incredible, and there is lots of great gear coming out this year.  It was amazing,  so much new cool gear there. Lots will be hitting the shelves later this year, and some early next year.  So lots to look forward to.   

In the meantime, we're really excited about some of the new Australian gear that's being developed too!

Most recently,  the tent from Outdoor Connection called the Tanbar. 

For those of you who arent familiar with Outdoor Connection, they're Australian owned & operated their headquarters is in Brisbane QLD.  They've been around for a long time and they have a huge amount of experience in designing quality camping gear.  Especially tents.

This tent is a new one from Outdoor Connection that was released only recently.

 

The Outdoor Connection Tanbar, is a canvas tent, with PVC floors, gusseted windows, awning, heaps of ventilation options and is inflated by air tents.

I think these tents would have even more appeal if equipped with a little 12v compressor and tank, something like this (probably not as big as it looks, the tank is only about 35cm long and 12cm round and could fit neatly in a small toolbox with the compressor.) and couple it with a pressure regulator like this set at about 10psi (0.7kgf/cm) and you would have a virtually effortless instant tent setup. You would also get about 5-6 setups out of the one tank before needing to hook it up to the battery to refill.

Interesting idea TryAgain, definitely one thing you'd need to make sure is that the pump stops once pressure reaches 10PSI.  Not keeps blasting out 10PSI until something else breaks.  I am not very familiar with compressors, and how that regulator you've linked would work exactly but that's my concern around that.

Although from what I can work out,  you would have to turn this pump on to inflate the tent.  Each tube from what I can work out holds approx 60 litres of air.  The tubes are approx 15cm in diameter, and 4m long.  That tank holds 6L of compessed air, and the compressor pumps at 40LPM so it wouldnt have to run long admittedly.

Interesting idea.  It would be interesting to learn about whether we could stop it pumping once a certain pressure was met.

A pump like that would certainly be simplier and cheaper and probably better from a retail perspective for those reasons.

The pressure regulator basically works by only allowing pressure through to the preset level. So although the litte tank can be pumped up to 100psi, if the regular was set to 10psi, it will stop air flowing through once the pressure has been reached on the downstream side. You would also want a pressure release valve as well though  incase the regular failed to work to stop it going pop.

Also, as the "air compressor" name implies, the higher the pressure, the greater the volume equivalent to what it would be at normal pressure, the basic formula is pressure x volume = pressure x volume. So the 4L tank at 100 psi would equal 40L at the 10psi requirement (think I guesstimated a smaller volume for the tent before to get the 5-6)

To further guard against a very loud ooops, would you also have a "trigger" fitted to the hose, so you have to stand there with your finger on the trigger to keep air pumping, rather than just hook the compressor up, then walk away to get a beer

It would be nice to have the pump be multipurpose, perhaps paired with your vehicle aircompressor.  But yeah for now the Outdoor Connection 12v pump does do nicely if you're really not wanting to break a sweat at all when setting up camp!  ..   Sounds great now I've said it like that!

I just use my air mattress pump on the Blackwolf one, it works fine. Thats if I can't con the kids into doing it.
