I'm glad Mitsubishi got it sorted early so I don't have to get caught up in the latest. Feel sorry for those that are going to be going through this now as I reckon the backlog will be horrendous

I received the recall letter from Ford for my 2010 Ranger and booked it in for the replacement airbags 2 weeks in advance. Turned up on the day and the service bloke says "didn't you get the phone call". As I had my mobile listed as the contact I asked him to show me where they had rang me and of course he couldn't. Long story short they had no airbags in stock for the recall but some may come in today he said and could I leave the car in case they got some. Seems Ford don't have enough stock to cover the recall and are rationing stock to dealers. Stock did turn up to do my car and all was ok by 10.00 am so if anyone is booking their vehicle in for the recall make sure the dealers have stock to the job, may save a wasted trip.
Cheers , Richo

would be impossible to do them all in 1 go.. they wouldn't have the room to store em!

Question is - what happens to teh millions of faulty ones

The problem of corrosion isnt until unit gets some age
Some makers hve been replacing bags with new old versions and they will have to be done again later once new versions available

No dramas with replacement air bags for the Jeep.
They had plenty of them in stock apparently.

My model Wrangler also had a clock spring recall on it which I got the notification for about 2 or 3 years ago.
Apparently a faulty clock spring stops your wipers, horn and headlights from working properly and could possibly set off the (now found to be faulty) airbags. Awesome little trick that one....

When Jeep did the first clock spring recall I had heard they where making people pay for a replacement, obviously that didn't fly for long.
Next they tried to say, bring in the vehicle and we'll test to see if the clock spring is faulty. If it fails we'll replace it. If it doesn't fail we'll tick you off the list as needing a replacement and when it does fail (because it will fail eventually) you will have to pay for the replacement. I wasn't playing that game.

So I waited around for all of the complaints to the ACCC to take effect and sure enough a year or so later I get a letter from Jeep, all clock springs will be replaced free of charge regardless of condition.
Not long after that I got the airbag letter. Figuring there'd be a massive waiting list, I waited another few months.
After the third reminder letter I finally rang Jeep and confirmed, the clock spring and the airbag will be replaced no matter what and they had both items in stock.

All done now, after getting home and clipping half the dash back in properly it's all good....  ;D

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-02/honda-confirms-takata-airbag-rupture-in-fatal-crash/9827808

It was in Malaysia. And the ABC reported it, so there's a chance it might be a true event.

From the article:

"Honda, Ford and Mazda Motor Corp have urgently warned owners of some older US vehicles to stop driving them until they get repairs made.

Ford and Mazda's warning covers some 2006 Ford Ranger and Mazda B-Series utilities, while Honda's warning covers some 2001-2003 model cars."

Anybody out there with an old Ranger or B ute ??? Don't know if they've extended the same warning out here, although I haven't heard of it if they have ???

I am thinking, If I was the powers that be I would be concerned about the disposal of the air bags being removed.
Looking at the earlier video, it might look funny, but the explosive device used to set of the airbag appear to be an electric detonator. How hard would this be to convert them to insinuate a larger explosion.

A friends Mitsi ASX had the latest recall for something to do with the wiper blades, from memory.
