Newbie - Looking to buy soft floor walkthrough
« on: April 26, 2018, 09:05:16 PM »
Hi all

Looking to make the jump from tent/swag camping into a camper trailer. My wife and I have a daughter who turns 2 this year and our instant up tent is now too small and the convenience and space of a CT is ticking a lot of boxes.

Have been researching for a couple of months and have settled on a walkthrough design as the thought of ladders and climbing over one another is not appealing.

Tow vehicle is a PB Challenger and typically we are heading away for a long weekend to places like Newes, Wombeyan Caves etc but are planning to do some extended trips down the track. Need to be somewhat self sufficient for National Parks / bush camping and to handle corrugated roads / beach although unlikely to take it anywhere super extreme!

In terms of features, looking for something with a tropical roof, decent kitchen setup, fridge slide in trailer, 12A power setup and ideally hot water, fully enclosable annex or kids room “just in case”amongst other things.

How hard is it to retrofit a gas hot water system?
I’m led to believe a 10’ tent is the largest you can go before needing additional support poles - true/false? Keen to minimise the setup where possible

Got down to the camping super show earlier in the week and liked the look of the Stoney Creek SC-WT, although was the only walk through aside from the $30k+ trackabout on display. Going to get a lot more bang for my buck second hand and have got a nice long gumtree watch list going which includes the following within my budget...

- Lifestyle Extenda
- Outback Campers Simpson
- Jawa Outback
- Jimboomba Staircase
- Mountain Trail Escape
- Camel Beachcomber

The Jawa Outback seems to tick all the boxes but I cannot find any reviews out there! A lot of Lifestyle Extenda in the classifieds which could be either good or bad..?!

Also willing to head interstate for the right camper, anything I should note about transferring registration back to NSW?

Anyway that turned out a lot longer than anticipated, so in summary, hi! Appreciate any feedback that may come my way

Cheers
Dan

We have a Challenge Meridian off road softfloor with 12 ft tent... no additional support poles, just the bow at the end and the two uprights which fit into that.
Very easy to put up/pack up.  Not a walk through but they weren't around when we got ours.

First up, what is your budget? plenty of good options to buy, especially in the used market.
