Lest we forget

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Trouble is I think there are an increasing number that have never learnt or refuse to learn what ANZAC means and for them they choose to forget

The uncle I never met who perished like so many before his 21st birthday as you can see in the young faces-

I know it is a few days late, but this sheila playing The Last Post on a violin does a half decent job.

Went to the dawn service at Blackboy Hill (W.A.) yesterday. First time in 30 years. I thought i'd get there early at 5.30 am so i could get a decent spot. Bugger me it was 10 deep already. Surprised to see so many people there and a lot of younger ones as well.
I was in the 10TH Light Horse as a reserve for 3 years back in the 80s and have since found out that my great uncle was in the original XLH that formed in Guildford back in 1914 and Black boy Hill became the training camp. He was also in the Gallipoli landings in 1915. With tears in my eyes it was time to pay my respects.

I went out to a small town & there were a lot of people of all ages there as well.

Regretting I didn't organise myself to go down to Canberra as there were somewhere between 800 & 1000 Army apprentices leading the march there to celebrate 70 years from the 1st intake in 1948. There were representatives from the 1st intake up to the 49th, who were the last, when the scheme closed in 1998.

A lot of my intake (25th) were there.

Now looking forward to spending time with mates when we catch up to celebrate our 50 years from enlistment in 2020 (if I am still this side of the grass)

I had a great ANZAC Day. Actually got to have a sleep in for once. ( up at 0500 instead of 0330 to get the gunfire breakfast ready)

Fantastic Dawn service at TINDAL with our little community.

On to Gunfire Breakfast as a customer for once. Had a couple of rum coffees to celebrate with breakfast. We raised $450 for Legacy here.

Then on to Katherine for the ANZAC Day parade through town to the new town cenotaph. After the service made our way to the Katherine Club where we were welcomed with open Arms,
Headed back to TINDAL around 12, changed and off to the SGT's mess for a afternoon of celebration remberence and comradely.

Opened up the Crown and Anchor table where myself and one of my work colleagues manned the table for 5 hours straight. Another $750 raised for Legacy My back was killing me by the end from reaching across the table all afternoon.  Spent the rest of the evening with colleagues and friends.

Work up next morning actually feeling quite healthy, even better.

One of the better ANZAC Days I'Ve had for a while.

Lest we forget.

Cheers Chris
