Connect on LinkedIn ?
« on: April 03, 2018, 07:08:12 PM »
Hi MySwaggers!

So whether LinkedIn is useful or not, or if it's evil or not... ... The jury is still out for me...   I'd love to hear how any of you may have used it to your advantage!  In the meantime,  I'm using it as a fancy way of collecting in-depth business cards.  I do also enjoy using it to do a bit of research on companies & people that I'm considering working with, as a final stage of research before decision time.

So I suppose,  that is pretty useful to me!

This got me thinking... I am sure there are plenty of MySwaggers out there who offer services I may want/need in my life but I have no way of knowing whether you support me, MySwag or are even a camper.....  So I thought it'd be nice to support businesses who are MySwaggers, and campers!

So please, feel free to add me on LinkedIn - no need for a message or to reveal your MySwag nickname if you'd rather keep your personal & professional lives separate.  (I get it!)

However,  if you did mention that you're from Myswag, it would help me understand where the connection requests are coming from !

My Linkedin profile is:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonburrellaus/

Please feel free to add me, and to drop your own link below so we can all try support each other wherever we can professionally.  Ultimately,  it should mean we can all camp more often too!

Looking forward to connecting with you professionally :D

Cheers!

Happy Camping!

I am a reasonably active Linked In user and generally use it to keep in touch with old colleagues, either via the occasional message or when I am looking for someone with a particular skills set (for me that means engineering and project management).

I keep it completely separate to my personal life.

People have completely missed the point of LinkedIn, it’s was supposed to be a first degree thing to recommend people you know or work with directly, instead it’s become a recruiters database.

Mine is still out there somewhere, I've just let it atrophy. Pretty sure it still says I'm a software engineer in Wisconsin USA.

I use it semi regularly, for two main reasons
1. Enables professional discussions on some of the groups on there. M( not dissimilar to myswag where boring bean counters can talk about bean counting)
2. opportunity, enlarges my network of connections and potential recruitment opportunities both when I was hiring and for myself

I also use it to understand and research companies I am applying for.

It is becoming more Facebook like but it still fits my needs
Cheers

I use it fairly regularly. As a contractor, I've had quite a few companies and contract agencies contact me via Linkedin. To me, as a employment tool, it is quite valuable.

I am not on facebook and not an active social media person at all.

However I am active on Linked in as it is a great source of contacts and a way of getting your business and or products to the right people..

It is also a great way to find contacts for up coming projects etc. and to see what your competitors are up to, I find it very useful for business.

yes it is a play ground for recruiters but I just don't add them to my connections..
Regards,

Wilson79

..........instead it’s become a recruiters database.

My wife recently had to deal with a recruitment firm via linked in, next day her full resume' including all personal details were distributed by the recruitment firm as public access. The account was immediatly deleted, but the info is still on the WWW, and all attemts to have it removed have failed >:(
