Home gas stove sappy igniter
« on: March 31, 2018, 04:14:38 PM »
Hi
We have a gas stove in the house and the press button igniter switch died. It is a pretty basic 2 wire electronic press button to make the sparky things throw sparks. Not a flint type.
I was considering a start button from Supercheap but they are 12/24 volt and I don't know whether the stove switch is 12 volt or 240 volts. I assume the 12 volt shupercheap switch won't handle 240 volts.
Does the experience of the fine Forumites have any knowledge of these type of stove switches?.
Cheers

If you know the brand or can find it marked on the unit google it.

Have a look in the cupboard under the stove and either side, if you find a 9V battery taped in there, then that is most likely the power supply.
The igniter takes bugger all power, just bumps up the voltage to get a nice fat spark and I'd think that the supply power from that battery  is going through the switch, rather than having the coil energized all the time.  A store bought switch should be able to handle it.

I'd took at Jaycar though, more range of momentary switches there.

If its 240V and wired into the wall, then Jaycar are also a good bet as they will have stuff rated to that, but I wouldn't be messing with it.

Thanks.
The stove is a Euromaid GS60NG and has 240 volt power for the oven fan and light. Have not seen a 9volt battery yet.

It may not have a battery or a 240 volt supply it may be a simple piezo igniter. (Push button igniter that was activated by a small lever in the base of the stove) Ours stopped years ago and on checking the wire to the back of the unit had come adrift, quick repair and it is still going strong.

No, ours is an old chef unit, different set up. Have you removed the old unit.

Terravista.
Your igniter looks like it could be a 6 way burner one from the parts list. A quick qoogle search didn't come up with anything like it. Best ring some appliance spare parts places and ask them for the part. You have the cooker model and the part number from the chart, item no 70, 268000016, automatic ignition (6 way) , but the way parts go this could be wrong. Have you looked at how tricky changing it might be, is a gas appliance and is possibly 240v involved ?

Seen that one when I searched. That is a single. Parts list does specify a 6 way igniter. Did find them but didn't say they were for that Euromaid.
