Rubber mat under battery

I read somewhere, that for offroad/corrugated trips, putting a rubber mat under the battery helps stop damage to the battery...

Does anyone do this and would it really make any difference ?

I put a 7mm  rubber mat under mine. It helps stop vibrations to a degree and ensures no bolt head contact the battery.  Certainly cant hurt.
Having lots of friends on farcebook is the same as having lots of money in monopoly...means absolutely nothing!!

Yep did that recently when I had the aux out. As big fish said "certainly can't hurt" I thought. Rubber is flat on topside and ribbed underneath.
Cut a number of round holes through the rubber to drain any liquid that might spill or get onto the rubber. It was a slow day at the time :D

Won't hurt but in reality the battery is held down firmly by the battery holder top bracket so I doubt the small amount
of rubber would have any real dampening affect for the battery internals. If you look at the cracking issues with the Toyota
Prado's etc must of the dampening is being done by the metal of the mud guards and battery holder:(

Both batteries in the camper have foam matts under them. It was already in the camper when I got it so left them there. The batteries are both secured so cannot move.

I don’t have any matts under the batteries in the car as already mentioned they are secured. In all the years traveling rough corrugated roads I never had an issue with the batteries in the 🚗

I actually have rubber around the battery as well as under...just to try and keep heat down a bit. Heat and batteries just dont mix. The Pajero had a plastic heat shround but when I went to a bigger battery it didn't fit so I made one from 7mm immersion rubber.

Just had an auto elec do some work on Blondie and we discussed batteries and he mentioned never to put an AGM battkey under the bonnet, they do not like the heat, he recommends a battery box and fitting in the rear of the vehicle.

Shield them with corflute sheeting, you can fold it with a slight nick on the corner.
Kept both batteries in my Cruiser going for nearly 5 years. Starter and extras.

       That's funny, had my AGM for 4 years under the bonnet running one of those Engels that chews the power and it's still going strong.

RJBatteries have a metal sheild for batteries too.. or corflute, plenty of products to shield the heat away

Interesting putting corflute, metal shields etc to protect the battery. In the cruiser the battery is located only 8in from the hot exhaust. I would rather a battery that is covered under warranty and I don’t need to add extras to keep the heat away.

The 8 inches from the Exhaust, was that your choice?
Or did someone make the choice for you?
My problem was the heat from the Radiator (105 Ser.). 
Both batteries in mine are a fair way from the exhaust.
In behind either headlight.

When driving down the road at a reasonable pace, heat in the engine bay is not a huge concern to your battery.  But when you are in stop/start traffic, gong slow off road in low range, climbing sand hill after sand hill at a slow pace, then the heat in the engine bay can be an issue and may reduce the life of your battery.  A heat shield on one side of the battery is a help but not much use in the scenarios I just described as the heat is trapped under the bonnet.

Not much use relying on a warranty when hundreds of kms out in the bush  ;D. I would prefer a battery that will start my fourbie.

I may have under estimated the distance but its close. It's the normal setup for a 100 series both batteries are located behind the headlights.

When we.hit Darwin in a couple of weeks I will see what is on offer to replace the existing deep cycle.
