Have not followed cricket for years since all the top well known players retired.

Too much cheating these days.

I was a huge cricket fan growing up. Haven't watched recently because, like McGirr, my interest went by the wayside as all the cricketers I knew - some so called "legends" of the game - retired and moved on.

However this struck a chord with me. Cricket was such a part of Aussie culture in the area I grew up in. We all played cricket (even if unofficially at school, in the backyard, etc.), we all watched cricket, played on the beach at Christmas and Easter, etc. It was just part of being Australian. Cheating wasn't. Now this? I find it really sad, and really Un-Australian.

From the small snippets and details being reported it does make you question how widespread this issue is in the Aussie team, though. Also, ill-timed with the Commonwealth Games so close... I bet all eyes will be on Aussie sport for a while.

I think they must have used Greg Chapell as a consultant.

Greg Chappell was not a cheat, what he did was within the rules of the game but it was not in the SPIRIT  of the game. Yes it did leave a stain on Australian Cricket but not like this latest episode will.

True Pottsy.

I am shocked at the latest effort. How in hell did they think they were ever going to get away with that?

I feel that they owe all Australians an apology. They have. Embarrassed us all.

As for the reference to Greg Chapell. It was more about trying to make light of a sad situation. I agree with your statement.

Cheers
Ken

I don't follow cricket, but it's been impossible not to hear about it. What I don't understand is all the comments like "will Smith step down?" and "I don't think he can still be the captain after this" like it's in question. Everyone involved should be dumped from anything to do with Australian representative cricket permanently. We pride ourselves on being a sporting nation and now thanks to these assholes we're cheats. Australia needs to reject them completely.

The latest spruking just on Box about it shows footage of previous questionable antics in the Ashes test recently aswell .
Bet your boots the mobs this team have played and lost against  will call for reviews of all footage to see if they were dudded by cheating .

Just a storm in a teacup, The SA bowlers are getting the ball to move so lets see the cameras on there players for awhile they would find something for shore to, The players are pushing the rules all the time, ex, bigger thicker bats, slowing over rate down, Shore they will get a slap on the wrist they never killed anybody, they will get twice as much money playing 20/20 in a quarter of the time, Look at the money its making and attention its got in the media, All the old players did the same thing with kerry packer pushed the limits and now they are getting paid to stir the pot, Craig

Your right, but the shame and revelations just get worse, I fear there will be more heads to roll.
Some of the hard done by fringe players may now get the opportunity to show their skills, albeit under difficult conditions.

Hahahha, great scorecard,
nothing like hosting a shield final and having a chat to the curator beforehand.

one of the advantages of finishing on top of the table...

qld only need a draw... doesn't make much sense to get the curator to fashion up a greentop...

been that way forever...
