VJO,
You're in your 8th year.
I found grade 4 the hardest 😋
Cheers
Allan

Yeah I must be doing something wrong. I spent 4 years in Year 3 and then this year I showed up and I got sent back to Year 2. WTF!!

I always got bored and moved on after 3 or 4 years.
Present job is shift with great annual leave so been here 15 years.
Hoping to job share in a couple of years. = 3 months a year actual working days with 3 1/2 weeks leave and long service after every 7 years.
Man has to have a plan.

Cheers Glen

Does self employed count???

35 Years working on and now running the family farm, the only job I have ever had since leaving school.

:cup: :cup: I'm the same, 45 years this year, the last 19 running it myself.

Doesn’t seem to be as common these days

That's because of the "gig economy," which is a fun way of saying "you'll never not be looking for a job." Just another thing the youngsters of today have to look forward to.

Second longest was my apprenticeship.......3.5 years (company went belly up mid '85).
Went back to night school and became a drafty.........9 years with 1 co. Got shafted with them then went contracting.

Longest gig contracting was just shy of 5 years.....shortest 3 months.

Over 20 years contracting........wouldn't change a thing......

8 years at this job and reckon I’ll be here until retirement.
When I was younger I would chase the almighty dollar.
I remember one year having 9 different jobs.
I’m glad I’m over that crap...

7 years is my longest, been made redundant 3 times so a lot of it not my choice. Did 3-4 years at the mine and was hoping that would be a job until retirement but no such luck.

Current job is going on 7 weeks now, hoping to rack up the 20 years and retire from this one, but let's see how that goes. I hate changing jobs.

Used to be 1 interview and start tomorrow...

Now some places now have 5-6 interviews, exams to see how smart, exam to see if you would fit in the environment, psychological tests, police checks, check your facebook page... take me back to 1986 and leave me there.

Coming on 18th year.

I can only wish I get a redundancy when I am closer to retirement.

For those that have simply reached retirement age after long term employment with the same company, did they just let you walk out on retirement day or did they 'reward' you financially?

Hi,
After  39 years, and with the imminent move to a new building, I tried for redundancy but the Uni knew I was 64 and getting tired, so they held out.
Not that I resent it in any way.
As soon as we had a date to move, I gave notice effective the day before. About 6 weeks notice.
Best move ever.
Cheers

I worked for a company where the receptionist had been there over 25 years, handed in her resignation for retirement and was told they would not accept it and asked her to consider her options for a week. Two days later they made pretty much everyone in the office redundant including her.

Yup, then they ignore the results of the tests.

I did a "suite" of tests for a company, they said they knew not all would be relevant to my position but they paid for them all so I may as well do them.
Turns out I passed the database admin test never having administered a database in my life!

Only 11 years with this company, but I worked for the company that my current employer bought out and the company that the other company bought out. ;)
It's almost 15 years doing what I do now, but only 11 years of long service to show for it....  >:D

Pretty much the same as me, 15 years with current but original company was taken over 3 years in.

Time for me to move on but no idea what to.

young bloke from up the road from where I grew up, after 18yrs at work walked into hand in his resignation to go travel Aussie in a troopy with few mates..
boss said 'ahhh was looking for you'... Kev said I was looking for you too - but you first

So asked what the boss wanted... he was offered redundancy there and then. Kev pretended to think for a minute, and said i accept.
The boss shook his hand gave the speech about great servant etc
then asked what did you want to see me about - he dug out the letter from his bag and said I was going to resign - but you got in first  :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: The boss was pissed!

If I had stayed instead of taking early retirement I would have chalked up 47 years with the same company last month. Still did 38 years with them though.
