Same here. I'm the son of a chef and spent a large part of my young life in my parent's restaurant. Cooking is just a trade, not an art. I do most of it at home and all of it while camping and that is OK. The (isolated) kitchen section of my current camper is a huge part of why we chose it.

My concern would be the weight difference if you're comparing it to an Ozpig.

Ozpig = 21kg
Supacentre stove = 10.5kg

There'd have to be a quality difference there...

But that said, it all comes down to the price its worth to you and the function it'll serve. Just like why we're happy with our $30ish VicOffroad firepit and haven't forked out for the SnowPeak one.

Here is my take on camping cooking

i have cooked for my family for 30 years and a while professionally.  i really enjoy it, it is not something I hand to my wife as "womens work".  Therefore I am willing to indulge myself knowing that we will all enjoy the fruits of my labours (and the equipment I buy).  I guess that if it was my wife who cooked I probably say the same??

Camping is great, it's better with good food!!!

No issue with that, I am the chief cook and bottle washer in our family and  I use Weber baby q, 2 burner stove, Dutch oven anda fold out bbq plate when camping. All dependent on weather, fire season etc as to which I use.
Good food and variety when camping is essential.

Wouldn't have anything but my ozpig which i'm pretty sure will outlast me. have the offset chimney which is quite useful when it pi$$es down with rain and everyone is running for cover.

A lot of the 4WDsupacentre stuff is like Ikea furniture, you don't actually own it, you are just renting it till it $hits itself. Nothing wrong with renting, lots of people do it.

•It must be used for cooking and/or heating only.
•It must be 20cm off the ground.
•Manufactured fuel does not include timber or wood.
•Appliances that are not fully self-contained, such as braziers, are not permitted.
•All appliances, materials and fuels (e.g. heat beads) must be removed from the national park on departure.

I used my ozpig on Fraser, and the rangers saw it each night on their rounds and were happy with it.. dont forget to the firewood rules too.

so long as you call it a cooker, don't use any timber to burn in it (you need to burn sawdust logs, heatbeads, compressed paper logs etc), then remove any ash / charcoal from the Island when you leave (it's not allowed in the bins on the island), then the answer is yes.

Interesting idea, can't help but think you would have to clean the dust off of it everytime you went to use it, and if you had left any oily residue on it from using it, it would be a dust magnet. I guess that is one of the reasons it's stainless.

It does look like the kings one would go close to fitting into one of their Dirty gear bags to borrow their idea.

Interesting idea, can't help but think you would have to clean the dust off of it everytime you went to use it, and if you had left any oily residue on it from using it, it would be a dust magnet.

Interesting concept, initially thought that it was automated and sensed the level of smoke etc and adjusted the airflow to optimise the burn but basically just looks like a fan with a few different settings that you choose, don't think it is going to do a lot more than a well-designed fire pit with good airflow though. Looks like they sold over 2m worth with their Kickstarter campaign though so piqued the interest of quite a few.

Could always add a small battery blower kit to a flat pak fire pit easily enough . Be way cheaper and less bulk than this thing and put the unspent $$$ difference towards fire side refreshments .

It would be cool if it was powered by a small steam turbine heated from the fire, maybe a small battery or capacitor that powers it whilst it is heating up that is then also recharged by the small steam turbine once the fire gets going, would be better/geekier option than something like the advertised one that you need to remember to recharge.

There is  a heat / fire  powered battery charger on the market , So can they could  power this fan unit with their  version of  it if they realy wanted to .

Somewhat ironically perhaps is that it's made by the same people who make the firepit, not cheap though. Maybe that will be a future model.

Geeeezzzzz all this waffle about a cooking devise ,,,,,, . Wood fire  (with or without rock ring )plough disc ,  bit of fence wire to turn chops . ln the morn stir fire add wood cook bacon & eggs .
 All this other stuff can increase your ball weight & lower your wallet weight  . But its up to you really   .
