$65000 for the Chrysler & $119900 for the Beemer , & that's before lights, siren, radio's, computers etc etc etc.

So much for the Police budget

There is no State duties or taxes paid by the Police when they buy these, just federal.
They will be getting them as a Lease Vehicle anyway, so they won't pay full retail by any stretch of the imagination.
Plus they'll come with a lot of gear on them without having to add it in after purchase.
Radio's will be something that will have to go in after they get them, and they get recycled from one to the next.
I'd be interested in what they go for at Auction, after the boys have beaten the daylights out of 'em.

Very few vehicles off the showroom floor are adequate as a police vehicle, given the requirements for brakes, suspension, occupant protection and a range of other factors. Since both Ford and Holden have closed down local production, there simply arent many options available.

And most of the European manufacturers have dedicated emergency service production options - slightly bigger alternators, different brake and wheel combinations - as well as the electrics being configured around the need for quick adjustments and all the extra gubbins that they need in there. I remember seeing a Volvo V50 demo car set up in Paramedic spec in the UK; if the blue lights were on, then the horn buttons changed the siren tones - much easiser for the ambo to do that with a reach of their fingers on the steering wheel rather than having to find a toggle or rocker switch on the dashboard.

Can't understand why they don't use the Buick twin turbo FBI Interceptors.


Might have to get the way back machine or the back to the future DeLorean or the Tardis, and go to 1987.

That's a shame, because all the work is already done, and they look badassed too. All wheel drive would be handy in all sorts of situations.

The ute version actually looks a lot like my Territory - they would probably have worked as well, at least as GD's, maybe not High Speed Pursuit

It wasn't that long ago that we thought that we would be selling Commodores to the US for police vehicles. 

Clearly that didn't work so now we have to look elsewhere (somewhere with right hand drive!!)

I believe in the next few years we will see the Dodge Charger for NSW highway patrol vehicles. It will be a plug and play type arrangement with the mobile data terminal input into the dash. New ICV system etc

Even the Traffic boys. 
If you try and put someone uncooperative into a 2 door and you don't want them in the front with you you'll understand.
That's the basic reason 'Pony cars' failed, and we won't get into the 'American Idea' of how a car should handle.  Ok.

We did....we sold a heap of Caprices to them. Saw a few of them a couple of yrs ago over there.


The Kia Stinger has been mentioned before, and looking at the prices of the Chrysler and BMW , it would make a lot of sense ?
