New Kia Stinger
« on: October 23, 2017, 04:45:22 PM »
I was Kidling time and decided to check out the new Kia Stinger.

Bugger me, they are a great looking car, this one was a twin turbo V6 GT model with all the fruit.

I know it's not a V8 Commodore, but it looks like a sweet ride.

$65k for their top spec model.

51% owned by Hyundai.  The Korean Toyota !!

Just think what the hwy patrol might be driving soon. The only 4 door, rear wheel drive car with a decent 6 cyl engine that is priced around the same as a SS Commodore or XR6 Falcon ( both deceased )..

Didn't they say the same thing about Jap imports back in the 70's when the Playboy center folds had hair on their lady bits?

That car with 7 years unlimited kms warranty. Every rep in the world will be buying them. Kia will go broke keeping them on the road not because they are a bad car but because of the way they are going to get driven.

If a business is offering 7yr warranty they are probably pretty confident in their product

The warranty has been around longer than the car.

And the big one the brake package meets the requirements for the police straight from the factory.

Gotta consider the Ancap rating too.
Have they done an assessment on the Stinger yet?

May have the letters wrong ok, I meant the national vehicle crash test rating.
The Vic. Police wanted vehicles that were Max. safety/survivability on the crash test scales.

?????

I guess would be alluding to the fact that the Ford Mustang was high on the list of police probables until it got an ancap rating of a tractor and they ditched it.
I see they have gone with a Chrysler which can only mean they'll be looking for new cars in about 6 months....

I meant to post 5 stars as that's what it got, somehow got a question emoticon instead. I have amended to original now, I didn't notice if you got the letters wrong (if you did).

Amended my post to what I intended it to be now, it got a 5-star rating from what I have read.

They (we ) did and look how far they've come.
A friend of ours has a Kia Rio that's so old that bits of it have started to fossilise, it's on its nth owner and it looks pretty tatty. But it's done a bit over 600k km and still goes strong. He's been trying to palm it off onto his son for 10 years or so but he won't have a bar of it "because it's a Kia" and drives a continuously breaking down commode. All he's ever done is a couple of alternators, a few batteries and the brakes. He changes the oil and all filters every 20k km and fills it up and drives it. Apparently it's never broken down. The previous owners are all family so its history is known.

Given the history of the Kia and my experience (good) with an old Hyundai Sonata I'd not hesitate to by a Kia or a Hyundai.

Go back a few years I probably wouldn't have touched one.........

Then I bought an iload purely because I was a decent sized van that would fit in my garage. Hiace was too big.
Now I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Have heaps of friends who've bought hyundais and Kias and no major problems.
Of course nothing is perfect and there is always a tale of woe, but on the whole they are pretty good.

My only gripe is why can't they make a mansize version........???????

Something perhaps 4WD with low range that can tow 3.5 tonnes???

C'mon, it can't be that hard........

Pretty sure they do have a dual cab in the works, would be good for the market. Think hyundai australia wants a minimum 1 tonne payload on some other sports ute before they import that, but thats a wole different kettle of fish.
