Just read he's passed away from cardiac arrest at 66. Sad news for the music industry with another legend gone.

Yea sad if its true.  but Ch9 just said he isnt dead but still on life support... who knows..

hasn't actually passed away as yet...  life support has been removed, with a 'no resuscitation order' in place...

very sad, either way...

well, based on multiple american news and radio sources, they have retracted the 'death' news story and are reporting he is still alive...

also, it appears as though ch9 have changed their tune (as at 8:13am):

i'm just going off what the tv news is saying this morning ....they literally just now have been on telly retracting the fact he's died....gotta love the standard of journalism today

I've never understood the "FIRST AT FIVE" bullShit that one station promotes.. who gives a ****.. all stations will have the same bullShit on within an hour... then another station now has a 4pm gig to be FIRST AT 4...

I went to the Knebworth Festival in the UK in 1978 as a callow youth, and a then (now embarrassed ex-) fan of Genesis, not knowing the works of Tom Petty at the time. After 39 years, his set is the one from that festival that sticks in my mind. As time passes by, you encounter more and more passings of musical icons that have featured in your life with varying degrees of feelings of loss. I never owned one of Tom's records (in retrospect, I don't know why) but this loss seems to be one of the more painful. Nearly as heartbreaking as the passing of John Peel for me (Brit music fans will know what I mean). RIP Tom
