From another forum I'm on, as a warning to the good folks here. Apparently there's a big market for "Used" Engels.

 Stolen out of the canopy on the Defender at Drouin railway station last Friday. Scumbags broke the lock and then ripped the fridge out of it's anchors. Grey in colour and has a screw in the front that had a thermometer hung on it. Was screwed down to a sheet of particle board that is covered in grey carpet- the board has gone with the fridge screwed to it."

I recently advertise an old (30years) engel fridge. It sold within a couple of hours of listing. I ended up being offered double my $75.00 asking price, but a man of my word, I held it for the first who contacted me until picked up.

Leaving the Engel in the back while parked at a train station, would be easier to just leave a steal me sign on the car. I cringe when I see those 4x4s parked at the shops/train station/side of the road with the maxtrax/engel/hi-lift jack still attached, it's like a opportunistic thief's market place.

As soon as I get home from a trip I unload all the goodies I can and lock them in my shed. I shouldn't have to but that's how it is nowadays, gotta make it hard for them a-holes.

The rubber feet on the Engles are held on with a simple phillips head screw / small bolt, it's an easy job to drill 4 holes in the bottom of your fridge slide and get some longer bolts / screws with a anti theft head, then use these to bolt right through your fridge slide and it's feet at the same time. Doesn't make them theft proof (especially if slide is not well bolted down, but does make them harded to remove...just leave other straps on also to make look like that is all that holds it there, helps confuse thiefs that are after a quick in and out opportunity.

We've been getting some work done at home, and have had to park the vehicles out the front on the footpath, for a couple of days. My mrs moved my troopy out there, and when I went to get into it after sitting there over two nights, I found the front door unlocked. Luckily the Engel was still in the back, as well as the tools in the cargo draws, and GPS and radio etc etc etc. Wasn't happy.. LOL

I've left my fourby sitting in a caport in full view of the street overnight with the rear barn doors wide open, and our 80 ltr fridge there for all to see. At first i thought someone had broken into my vehicle, then i remembered i hadn't closed the doors the day previous after getting something out of it....got lucky that night I guess

Done the same a couple of times rumpig...cant believe my luck.
I left the keys in the drivers door of the 80 full of tools, fridge ect after packing up late one sunday arvo all night

Once, I forgot to lock my car one night. Came out the next morning to find the small amount of lose changed I kept in the centre console gone but my gig bag containing about 5 grands worth of trumpets still sitting on the front seat. I got very lucky that night.

Our house wasn't locked for about 10 years, front door was, but backdoor was open the whole time and the mrs and I both worked. Two German Shepherds wandering around the yard probably made a difference though.

none of the locks on the front door of our house were locked last night.................though i did have words to the wife about that after finding it that way this morning...lol.

We had locks but growing up in Perth in the 60s they  never seemed to be  required.

Then when serial killer Eric Edgar Cooke was active people were encouraged to step up their security and lock doors and windows  but  my mum famously told us not to bother as the killings were occurring on the other side of town.

Turns out Cooke lived two streets away.

it's not the first time i've woken up to unlocked or even slightly open doors here...the reality is you'd be pretty unlucky to have someone break into your house at night whilst you are home, though i do have friends that it happened to recently. Our place has been broken into twice in the 15 years we've lived here...i have a fair idea who it was the first time (druggo scum neighbour that lived in the street behind us), but can't prove it was him..... second time i nearly caught the person after our security system (installed after first break in) alerted me to the fact someone was trying to break in. That druggo looking scumbag got away from me at the local train station where I caught up with him, though he then vanished like a bloody magician (luckily for him), and got away.

Arseholes. Yep fridges are a scumbags free commodity. I've had a mate loose a CF80 from a van park before. And another mate of mine was lucky I disturbed the little Shits going through his car with 2 fridges onboard at 2am in the morning. They were just aimlessly wandering around the van park carrying these at 2am in the morn:



Which they left in haste as they legged it and we followed close behind:

Hahahah that pic of the bolt cutter reminds me...
A few years ago, two young men decided to try to break into my neighbours shed by cutting across the front of my property.

I ended up with a free pair of bolt cutters, a beanie, a hoodie and one shoe.
Gave the bolt cutters to the neighbour. The rest went in the trash.

& that's the problem. If they're carrying a full-on GP key with them, then your padlocks, chain, even GG's cables aren't going to worry them too much
