Family of five camper Budget around 10K

Hi all,

we have a family of five, kids 2,5,8 and are in the market for a camper, I am thinking Aussie made is a better option but not really sure.!!!!!!!!!!1

I have been looking at a Aussie made Ranger camper but I cannot find any more information out about them, does anybody have any info on them !!!!!!!

I have read on here that people like the Aussie Jay campers but do they still make them !!!!!!!!!!!!

We are thinking soft floor as it will give more room for kids, but we are looking for decent quality, well built, easy set-up and value for money. I would be mainly used for long weekends etc and at this stage it wont be in any too extreme off road situations.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Within your budget if you're happy to consider second hand you'll have lots of good options available, especially in soft floor models.

Can't comment on specific ones. We briefly owned a soft floor camper years ago (shared with family) but it didn't suit any of our needs so we eventually sold it on. I wouldn't recommend that particular one, LOL, but it was of the "cheap and nasty" variety anyway.

We were very happy with our Outback Sturt camper.  These are an old style still made and you can easily pick one up 2nd hand for under $10000.  You can put 3 beds, stretchers etc for the kids in the tent part and because of the placement of the door you can still get to the bed.  We liked the rear fold style.  There is one for sale on here http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=51865.0

Check how easy what you buy is to put up and importantly pack up as some campers have to many poles and the tents are to big.

Welcome aboard.

Have had one for 6 years now.  Some models (like ours) come with a lot of canvas - extra rooms, etc.  We have never used it all, only just the main room and annex roof.

Plenty for sale sub $5k now (along with many other brands).  Id check out second hand.

Was that the ones made by ranger campers ??. I think they were in sunshine west Melbourne?.

A quick search on Gumtree shows you should be able to grab a decent secondhand Trackabout Camper for that price

I believe Aussie Jays went broke. Which is a shame for those who had outstanding orders. From what I've read he made a decent product

Different to the imported Rangers I was talking about, I haven't heard of them before
