Urgent - Opinions on "SWIFTCO" or Platinum Campers
« on: May 20, 2017, 11:18:58 PM »
Hi Folks,

We have decided to purchase a newish camper trailer.  I have read a lot of forums on the chinese campers and understand pros and cons of buying new chinese vs Australian 2nd hand.

Husband is down from Darwin in Brisbane this weekend and is trawling through a lot of camper stores and has come across a camper labelled Platinum Campers resold by "Swiftco" who have the following two that we're interested in:
https://www.platinumcampers.com.au/warrior-s2
https://www.platinumcampers.com.au/chariot-s2

He likes the Warrior (though he swore he wasn't a fan of soft floors - something about amazing storage) and I like the Chariot - it is a unique design forward fold.

My hubby says there put together quite well.

I spoke to the guy last week and they state they have been selling campers for 20 years and that they have had the Chariot for about 5 years and they "walk off the floor" when in stock.

However they are not on any forums, I can't find any reviews about them, good or bad.

Does anyone know anything about these campers, any info you could provide would be awesome.

Campers seen today - Mars, Skamper kamper, Ezytrail, Myswag, Stoney Creek, Platinum Campers

Thanks so much

No sure if it means anything to anyone else, but the English, if you could call it that, on their website, doesn't inspire me at all.

Don't know anything about them but that is definitely a "unique design" alright. The towball weight could be interesting with two hardfloors

Not sure what I think about the kitchen aspect ie: having to stand at the front facing in to use.

Two things you always hear about with the imports is the build quality and the aftersales reports. Sounds like you are satisfied with the first and only time will tell on the second. If you are happy with the look of it go for it as you can always fix / improve the smaller stuff as you go anyway

And the videos where filmed at the factory. From that it looks like they 100% made in China. Maybe the internals are fitted out locally, but somehow I doubt it.

All of that storage comes at a cost.
The soft floor has twin spares that will offset the weight a little bit, but all of those boxes forward of the axle screams massive ball weight to me.

A decision made in haste is normally a wrong decision.....if you are looking at these campers for the first time, and don't know much about them, then don't rush.....make sure you have researched and are comfortable before you buy one.... no matter what the brand/model.

Both those campers are imported by various companies. The camper warehouse at rocklea had them when we were looking.
The best of the soft floor walk ups we saw around that money was (believe it or not) the mdc Aussie nomad which was Aust made and built with a Chinese tent for approx $25k. I don't know if they do them anymore. Fully optioned and with Aust canvas they were $40k plus. If you can find one second hand you'll be a happy camper.
As others have said, be wary of making rush decisions.

Plenty of campers out there.  I wouldnt touch them. $24k for a softop?..no way. Dont rush it.  Why not buy a cheap ($5-7k) camper and see how you go over a few trips ? Then sort out what you need and dont need.?
Having lots of friends on farcebook is the same as having lots of money in monopoly...means absolutely nothing!!

X2.

Cruise the classifieds for your first camper. See what floats your boat and decide what you like.

We did months of research before buying our Customline second hand...

For 23k you'd get a second hand Trackabout or near new Customline WalkUp if the soft floor floats your boat...

That would be where my money would be going...

Thanks everyone.

Yes we will definitely take all into consideration.

Hard to trust people who say they've been in business a long time, yet there is nothing written about them anywhere.

I agree - the online videos with the chinese building in the background isn't helping sell it.  The attitude of the salesman either.

Have a great weekend and thanks for responding so quickly.

Its the first time I've seen anything like that hard floor version - looks pretty good to me!
