How effective is Trackabout stone guard??

Just making some final preparations on the Trackabout for our 8 Weeks in Cape York/North Queensland starting in July.

One question...how effective is the Stone Guard???  In the past on my other camper I've run a Stone Stomper (effectively heavy duty shadecloth running under the drawbar back to the toolbox) which I can't fault, other than it needs to be taken off for hard core 4wd stuff otherwise it gets damaged when the drawbar makes contact with the ground.   However it does a great job on high speed gravel roads where the chance of smashing a back window or denting the tailgate is significantly increased.

So has anyone had any issues with the Trackabout stone guard not protecting the camper properly or flicking stones back up that the car???  It's the latest style which angles backwards slightly, and has the mudflaps.

Big D. Found that having a stone stomper on made a world of difference with the trackabout. Even with it we did a bit of damage to the outer edges of the guard but no issues. Did a good job of protecting the camper from dust and mud. Would recommend the combination. Didn't have any issues using it up the cape however we did day trips without the camper for the more tricky 4wd stuff.

Thanks....did your's have the mud flaps prior to the stone stomper??    What damage was sustained to the camper without the stone stomper or was it negligible??   Just trying to weigh up the extra cost and slight inconvenience of having to detach it occasionally vs potentially limited stone protection benefit....not particularly concerned about the camper, more the potential of stones flicking back a the car.   

Has anyone suffered stone damage to rear window or tailgate with the Trackabout stoneguard??

I pretty much put the stone stomper on from the start. Costed a replacement back window up and the stomper was half the price.

Having said that the tricky bit I found is remembering to clip the thing back up each time. Three replacement shock straps needed after 20 minutes at 100km/h flapping about on one side. Still it survived and works well.
