Getting my NBN installed
« on: May 17, 2017, 02:17:10 PM »
Just sitting here watching my NBN getting installed and what a farce!! First up the guy rocks up with only a cordless driver, goes to remove the face plate of the antenna box on the wall and has it set in the wrong drirection so strips the head of the screw, doesn't have a good or fashioned screwdriver so I have to get mine and finish removing the plate myself, does what he needs to do and guess what!! He doesn't have a spare screw to replace the stripped one!! Wants to use my vacuum cleaner to clean up the mess he has made..

Not sure who employs these clowns but I would have thought that if your doing this job surely a manual screwdriver set and a small hand held vacuum wouldn't be too much to ask for??

mine has been a bit sketchy, dropping out a lot.

45 minutes on the phone tonight trying to sort it, so hopefully something comes of it. >:(

Mine was amazingly seamless. No techs needed, all done at the exchange, seeing as I have FTTN crap !!

What gets me is I do a speed test and get 23Mbps and 2.85 Mb/s download.....but it took 1hr to download a 900Mb movie ??

Really hit and miss around here. A mate got it de-commissioned as it was slower than his ADSL2. Friend in the next town just got connected and is rapt - speed test below. We're scheduled for FTTN so I'm not sure what speed we'll end up with.

I decided not to get NBN and went completely wireless with Uniti. Best decision EVER!

Funny as hell though. Telstra rang me and told me I need to have my home connected to NBN to which I replied.. No I dont. Lots of 'cannot compute' from Telstra ensured. End result is they come to my house and installed a modem just so my home phone will work.....

My cat climbed behind the TV cabinet and stepped onto the NBN box on the wall dislodging the cover which then broke the poorly installed fibre cable...no NBN for us. Tech coming tomorrow. Since I'm on the sick list at the moment and will be home, I want to make sure he terminates the cable in the plug end properly rather than leaving about 100mm fibre exposed and vulnerable. Now where's that cat...

Cheers!

If who ever is seeding the movie is only letting it go at 1kb,it wont matter if you have a 2309820348023948023948203948TB link.. it will still be slow.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but having had my NBN fibre cable fixed (the cat is innocent btw), the Tech reckons it was actually mice (sort of a plague here presently). So beware the hole in the wall where they install the NBN box may be big enough to encourage the pesky rodents to come on in and gnaw at the fibre insulation. So it may pay to fill it with some spray foam or steel wool etc.

Cheers!

Sadly our NBN is as slow if not slower than the ADSL .
