Mattress replacement
« on: May 15, 2017, 08:47:34 AM »
Gday all.
Need to replace the mattress/slab in my modcon.
Was thinking about a queen size self inflating mattress.
Has anyone else tried these? If so, how are they & do you get the bounce from your partner when they move like normal air mattresses?
Thanks

We replaced our mattress with a eurobed. We also use a topper on that. Made a huge difference.

We purchased a rear fold preloved camper with a 75mm foam mattress, and replaced it with a  8cm  Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper underlay Cover from Crazy Sales      they come in different thicknesses and we find it excellent, we were limited to 8cm due to the rear fold when closed     https://www.crazysales.com.au/online-8-cm-queen-cool-gel-memory-foam-mattress-topper-underlay-cover-127209.html

Hi Silverfox  tried an expensive self inflating mattress in our Modcon and it just didnt cut it for comfort we owned it prior to purchase and used it in our tent for camping, two king singles are better for less partner disturbance and what we resorted to when camping.

After much research and a lot of testing we put in Re-Creation Elite from Van Rest beds.
I purchased it sight unseen and untested as I wasnt happy with any we had tried.
Drove Sydney to Melbourne fitted it, then on to Tassie for a few weeks.
Best money you will spend in your camper.

I am 6'3"and 110kg so I need a good supportive  mattress.

Any questions happy to help.

the OEM spring mattress in our MDC was shocking.
bought a 50mm memory foam topper which helped.
then we ditched the OEM and use a 100mm memory foam plus the 50mm MF topper.
Now it's deluxe.

Self inflating mattresses are OK... just. We had one that we used in our tent, but ended up getting a "bed roll" style swag made for ease of set up/pack up and got a high density foam type mattress for that (forget what kind and where from...). The annoying thing about a self-inflating mattress is they tend to like staying rolled up (somewhat) after being rolled up for a long period of time. And they're annoying to repair if they get punctures... But they are not as bad as an inflatable mattress.

So called Beds Direct today after a weekend at Portland Buggy club
http://www.bedsdirect.com.au/products/camper-mattresses

Bog stock mattress was $295

The 'next level up' is the The Recreation range.
Manufactured in Australia, Re-Creation mattresses carry a 10-year warranty.
•Plush - Cassette spring, foam box construction, thick quilted poly/cotton cover (camper 120mm deep) (caravan 140mm deep)

bit steep I thought at $595

Hi Bird as in my previous post I have a Re-Creation and payed aroung that price and I can confirm they are worth every cent. I have slept on it 20 nights straight.
You wont regret the initial cost after getting a good night sleep whilst camping.

Friggin fantastic to sleep on.
