I am in the market for a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and had a look around on the forum and found an old thread on the Doran units. I thought it sounded like a good one so had a look into it. I tried to order one from the states for US$399 (about A$550) for the 6 transmitter model. The Yanks wouldn't sell me one, but referred me to their Aussie division who was more than happy to relieve me of A$960 for the same unit.
Is it just me, or do others feel like they are constantly getting reamed by Aussie on sellers of stuff made overseas. I don't mind a bit of mark up for the convenience of having a contact in Oz, but A$400 is just ridiculous. I don't get sucked in by 'it is the size of the market' argument either due to all the units being made at the one plant and therefore it is the one market, and the only difference should be transport, import duties and storage costs. Needless to say I am looking at other alternatives.
No wonder online sales are booming in this country, although as in my case they can still rort you.
