Tyre Pressures Between Trips
« on: April 21, 2017, 06:15:57 PM »
We have managed to park the Vista in our garage but it's a very tight fit, about 10-15 mm when reversing. My wife stood on a ladder to make sure it wasn't going to hit but I was very nervous.

I have now dropped the tyre pressures from the 34 they were running to 20 psi to see what height difference that gives me. It's around 8 mm which doesn't seem a lot but it's 50% more than I had the first time.

So can I keep the tyres at 20 psi until my next trip or do I need to pump them back up until we go again ?

Thanks in advance.

What about something like this?

I think it's easier to drop the pressures D4D. I reckon after a few more k's the suspension will probably drop a few more mm's as well.

just a pair of rims with no tyres would work to get in your shed as you can straight line it...

Just don't forget to let them down as you pull out of the garage

Problem is keeping them excessively bagged for an extended period can cause them to flat spot or "Cold set" which most tyres regardless of the pressure are susceptible to. Once you get a good heat cycle into them with the right pressure they generally re shape. 20 psi ain't too bad though mate just keep your eye on the sidewalls for any developing cracks which is usually an early sign of stress but personally I would pump them back up when you can

I have the same issue putting my lotus trooper in my garage/shed. Without letting the tyres down i just dont make it. Down they go to 8psi and that they way they stay. BUT i do drop the stabilizer legs to "help" it sit. Been doing it for 12month and haven't had a issue. Stuff changing the wheels
Life's wasn't meant to be fair.
Well so I've been told. ..

Cross plys are bad for this. Classic cars after sitting for a few months can be like driving on 50c pieces for a few km's.

If you're worried JCAT. Just pump em up a put a reminder note on the coupling to 'air down' before hitching up.
