Parking ticket for parking in a boat parking bay
« on: March 01, 2017, 02:01:39 PM »
The other weekend myself and my Brother went to Wellington Point for a late lunch, but seeing it was busy the only spots left were ones allocated to cars with trailers as there is a boat ramp in the same park.

As a boatie myself I know how annoying it can be driving to the ramp only to find single cars have taken all the trailer parks. But the afternoon in question it was blowing 25+ knots with a storm brewing, so out of the 30 dedicated trailer parks there was only 1 car/trailer parked.

So my Brother and I double parked in the same spot (trying to do the right thing) only to find upon our return we both got fined $87.

Yes we both knew we weren’t supposed to park there and if it was a fine/calm day we wouldn’t have, but it appears the council don’t take common sense into account and realise with the strong winds/storm brewing boaties wouldn’t be going out that afternoon.

I know we won’t win the common sense approach considering the weather conditions on the day, but I find it incredibly tough both being fined $87 as if anything we should have been fined half each??  My belief is they should fine per parking bay and not per car?

Just wondering if anyone else has ever been caught in the same situation?

The local fishos battled for years to get those few boat parks policed by council. Good to know it is working. Now all we have to do is get the knobs out of the Bunnings trailer parks.
I cannot understand the mentality of a person who parks in a trailer spot (even in bad weather) and then bitches when they cop a fine.

What if the weather was forecasted to change and improve within the hour and there was a mass arrival of boaties wanting to park?  It's likely that what one person may think is bad weather for boating, may not be for another...

If the rules for when a carpark can and can't be used are left up to individual interpretation you could only expect it to end in tears.

Just saying....

Yeah, i agree, if the place is nearly full of boats, but not when its blowing 25+ and only one spot filled.

A bit of common sense has to prevail.

Its like a pushbike thread already.  ;D

Trust me, as a boatie, if its blowing 25 +, it won't be boating weather in an hour..... its called a swell.

It's called the Redland City Criminals oops Council.  It has zero to do with protecting the best interests of Redlands rate payers. The really sad part is that the fee from those 2 fines wont even pay the wages and overheads of all of the employees involved in enforcing and collecting those fines. Idiot public service red tape gone mad.
I would actually contest this myself. It's time we Redlands people told the local council to pull their collective heads in. It's like when they introduced dumping fees for a while - all that happened is road side dumping went up massively. Remove the fee - oh golly gosh no waste on kerbs. Who would have thought?? lol

I think beachman used reasonable logic...given it was after 12pm you don't see many launching boats.

I have double parked with others using the same logic once many years ago.....didn't get fined.

Stop winging, >:( simple solution. put a boat trailer behind your car  8)   I went to the trouble and expense to buy a trailer and register it to carry my KAYAK ffs to legally park in those sort of car parks.

Unless of course they're launching with the tides. Nah, I agree with the guy who booked the culprits. 2 illegal parking acts, two fines....

As Orlov would say... simples

And don't even get me started on the F#$%tards who like to park their cars in the trailer turning area, while they have a little picnic.

Redlands is on the boat parks like a rash.

must be a huge source of income to the council as they police it around the clock at all the boat areas, its a gold mine for those catching ferries to the islands and running a fraction late, oh grab that park or miss the ferry.

I have been caught twice in 12 years at Cleveland harbor heading to Straddie (travelled daily for work) I know its wrong and take my chance, but 90% of the time you will get booked.

must be a great feeling for the tourists to have the great end of the holiday to Coochie or Straddie, or even the day trippers having fish and chips at Wello and the Island, ruined by a ticket on the vehicle when you return.  great tourism we have here in the Redlands, really positive- and wonder why no one comes here.

Hope NSW councils catch on. Sorry for the OP who applied commonsence but Brooklyn boat ramp parking lot is always 1/2 full of RVs caravans and wicked campers!

Exactly, if I follow the op's logic I should be able to park in a disabled spot if it's too windy/ raining/hot/cold or whatever. How about parking in a bus zone when there's no buses?
