eBay tyres
« on: February 20, 2017, 06:49:21 PM »
G'day all,
Has anyone bought tyres off eBay before? The price is a huge amount cheaper on there than out here, but are they the real deal or a Chinese rip off?
Thanks

I'd say generally the real deal but without seeing a listing it's pretty much just a guess, I assume you would want the guys who are looking to sell you tyres for more to fit them for you? if so I'd make sure first as they might refuse because they don't get to make anything on the tyres.

Listo,
I was understanding that if you bought tyres from of the internet, that's all you got.
Just the tyres, delivered by Courier, to your door.
It was up to you where you had the tyres fitted.
Meaning you would get charged for the fitting and balancing, instead of having it done as part of the purchase.

Only exception I can see would be if your local dealer was the one you purchased from.
And even then it would have to rate a mention in the Sale conditions.

I'm looking at 3 federal 6 ply tyres for the camper for $135 each, I'm just waiting to see what the freight is. Fitting price is around the $30 mark here per tyre, so I'd assume they'd be less than $200 a tyre for a decent puncture resistant off road tyre fitted & balanced.
Cheapest tyres I priced out here were $220 for crap & $200 for really crap.
I was just a bit worried tyres from eBay would be like Colgate toothpaste from Woolworths vs Colgate toothpaste from the reject shop... same label but a cheap Chinese rip off that's not up to standard

Have you tried tyresales.com.au.  You get to pick from a large number of tyre fitter.  If not in a hurry sometime tyres go on sale.

I think they also only have a 12 month warranty on the tyres they sell, not 5 years like most brands.

You can't generalize 'ebay tyres'. Every seller has different items, and like any marketplace, there are genuine and non genuine products.

However, look for decent tyre stores selling on ebay, like Don Cornells. I paid $265 each for BFG KM2's in 285/75/16

I notice supercheap sell tyres now - looks a bit like tyresales arrangement where you can nominate your fitter and the tyres are delivered there and there is an agreed price for fitment.  They have some supercheap :) stuff on there.

I ended up going with the eBay ones, only due to an old work mate having these tyres on his shooting rig with no problems. My figuring is that if they can handle mulga country with 50 roos on the back with punctures being rare, then they'll be good on the camper... or, they might be a rip off of them & ive just ****ed up

Anyone can sell tyres on ebay so your ebay tyres could be gold plated coopers or one hang low chinese no names, your not being very specific to a brand.
And any of these can be bought at a tyre seller/fitter.
