Ive posted this same question in the my camper section.... Sorry...just thinking I might get more feedback here.

I'm off to look at a couple of trailers on the weekend and really would appreciate people's thoughts, particularly if you have experience with these.

An Aussie swag and a Cape York Explorer. Both look really nice.  The ASwag has 130W solar, some form of Electric water heating, more canvas, and 30ltr more in the water tank.
I will probably replace the fridge in either should I buy one so that's not an issue.

The Cape York is 7k cheaper.... But for 7k .... I'm thinking any short comings can be over come for those $$$.

The ATM is about the same for both, but the CY has a lot less Tare giving me more load capacity (300kg) which is appealing.

The ASwag also has a tropical roof where as the CY doesn't.

The trailer is being purchased for our pending half lap Jun - Sep inclusive. Sydney thru the centre then the Kimberleys , WA coast and back home.

Would appreciate thoughts on what else I should be considering and any opinions on both trailers . Both are both ten years old.

Cheers

I can't talk about the Cape York Explorer but a quick look on google suggested they might have closed.  Perhaps someone else can comment on this, if true how do you stand for any back up?

Aussie Swag; I have one and think its brilliant. 300 amps of battery, 130w solar, 130ltrs of water, ability to pump water from external tank/source, diesel hot water, great kitchen etc etc. great back up from AS on the v few minor issues we have had. Ours is a 2014 Ultra d.

I know people that have both....I have seen both...and both are great campers.

Cape York don't exist anymore. Aussie Swag do. But as you said, for $7k, that's a lot of bits.

Don't know the age difference of the ones you are looking at or their condition.....
Have a think about resale value.
Tropical roof does work.

I suppose a lot is going to get down to how well they have been kept, and the little differences in the way the are setup etc.

For every situation you have 3 choices. Live with it, change it, or leave it. But only pick one

Thanks for the replies, appreciated.
The 2 campers are about the same vintage at 10 years old.

Regarding CY being closed down, I personally don't see that as an issue from a backup point of view. If I were ever to have issues, I would still seek a solution locally even if they were in business. That said, I believe from what I've read, they are well built. Same for the AS, if I have issues, I'll try and fix it locally (if I can't do it myself).

I do take the point though that others might not be of the same opinion and that may well affect the resale value. Actually, I think the resale on the AS will be better based on their reputation as well.

The tropical roof is another thing of concern. The owner of the CY says it's not an issue as it has large windows / plenty of ventilation and he has never had heat issues.... But then he is tying to sell it😎

Again....thanks

Have seen both in the flesh. Both well built. I think if you are buying scone hand, look for a well maintained example (both expensive unit, so should generally be
Poked after) with a lot of options that will make your camping more enjoyable.
For example, solar, good battery capacity, boat loader if you have a boat, possibly dridge options.
Narrowing down to these two brand will ensure a good quality camper and will really be splitting hairs as far as how they are made or quality, it will really come don to how the pr ions owner has optioned them.

Good luck

We have an AUssie Swag and have friends with Cape Yorks. And also living in Cairns where they were built we have seen plenty of them.
Only reason we went with the AS over the Cape York is because it was for sale when we had the $$ to upgrade from our soft floor Cape York.
Both are built to last and you won't go wrong with either one.
