Swaggers,

Inviting experienced high country swag advice... What is the easiest route from abbĂ©yards campground across the spine of the divide to Wonnangatta homestead?

And that answered, what is the funest route (same traverse) for a capable tug and camper? and for context, Davies High Plain and Old Coach rd are within capability. Any steeper than those and 'Er Indoors will be... Errr... Cranky ;p

TIA...     Finners

Abbey yards, you have 2 options take Harry Shepperds track to the selwyn helipad OR Take the east buffalo track to the Helipad........... then down the wonangatta track to the 'gatta valley.

Personally I reckon towing campers into the 'gatta is a PITA on steep Narrow tracks.......twice now I have been stuck for lengthy periods behind trailers stuck as a result of over inflated opinions of driver ability.
Light travels faster than sound............that's why some folks may appear bright until they speak

I've done East Buffalo to the valley with a camper, it's not too hard as long as the weather hasn't been terrible. I reckon all of the other roads in and out of the valley are too steep / tight for campers though. Check this link https://www.exploroz.com/forum/65154/wonnangatta-valley--camper-trailers

I have towed camper into Wonnangatta valley three times and have driven in there many times without a camper. The only way I have gone in is East buffalo, east Riley and then down the Wonnangatta track across the river to the valley floor. There is only one section on the Wonnangatta track that is reasonably steep, but take your time and it is ok. If there is any rain forecast for the area I wouldn't attempt it.
Last time we went in with the camper,we left the valley via the wombat range track and the onto the Cynthia range track, I would not attempt this route with a camper in tow unless you have a high level of off-road towing experience.

Thx Staghorn, so re that S-E exit from Wonnangatta valley toward Eaglevale... you say you DID exit with camper on Wombat Range and Cynthia Range tracks, yeah? If someone else has done it with camper, I'm confident (if dry) of exiting the valley that way too. We're able to do tracks like Davies High Plain and Limestone Creek Track, lockers 'n' all ;)
