Mosquito and Midge/Sandflie Repellents

After being smashed by midges in Coffs and now getting hunted down by mosquito just wondering what others use to fight these blood suckers? Everytime I stay at Bushland Beach/Blue Water they just cue up in millions when I book my flight  >:(

Unfortunately my blood is the stuff these things would go to great lengths to drink. The other day in Lower Glenerg I swear they waited on the other side of the wall, in the toilets, to attack while my pants were down. No one else had the problem but as soon as I was in, over the wall they came in droves and attacked. I even sprayed the walls with bushmans but that didn't stop them. Have about 50 bites from that weekend

I'm not fond of sprays as it makes you sticky/greasy at night in the sleeping bag.

So anyone got any great ideas?

Rid tropical strength roll on.

Or you could get some clothing already treated with repellent. Kathmandu, BCF etc sell them.

All the homemade remedies haven't worked for me.

Latest on the grapevine is spray Listerine around. If it don't work at least you'll smell fresh.

Your so lucky, I am allergic to the little p><:ks.
But found by using Avon "skin so soft" bath oil keeps them at bay quite well.
Not sure on mozzies but bloody good on sandflies.

Keep a tube of chemist's own antiseptic plus cream on hand for after you're bitten. It helps to lower the reaction and the itch - one of my kids gets affected by them too.
Off! Skintastic works o.k. and it's natural. I just use rid or aeroguard, wear longs pants and sleeves at dawn and dusk, and drink enough that I don't care what the sleeping bag feels like.

I've started using a cream called "the locals, sandfly and mozzie stuff".
It's like a moisturiser cream so it doesn't feel sticky and works well. I got onto it when I was working on Curtis island which is renowned for midges.
You do have to use it on all exposed skin or they will just get the areas you don't put it on.

Vitamin B twice a day repels them, I have worked next to mud flats where other people got smashed like you and I only got one

Only issue can take a couple of days to get through your system

Bushmans, not the spray on stuff but the creamy stuff, it has 80% DEET(used by US troops in PNG during WW2). We have just came back from Stanage and apart from the first few hours before we noticed we were under siege it worked great. Also spend a bit of time at straddie with no worries, just don't get the tube that has sunscreen in it because it's a bit expensive to use as sunscreen. We even use it lightly on the dog.

We use the PARA’KITO bands and they work great for two weeks. Its is a natural mosquito protection. Since using them we have not been bitten.
