help with windows 10 upgrade.... SORRY
« on: November 02, 2016, 04:00:36 PM »
I realise there is another thread on windows 10, but its a search problem that I'm having.....

I updated and now whenever I do a search the computer slows down to glaicial speeds..........
It happens on almost every website I go to.
I have no trouble opening browsers or pages and most of the time its fast, but as soon as I use a search icon in a site, bang it has a coronary and slows down or stops altogether.
I then have to reboot to do anything.....

I'm not too good with the PC , but any help would be appreciated....
It's driving me more insane than I already am :-[

a few questions to try and isolate the problem:

does this happen with multiple web browsers (microsoft edge, chrome, firefox)?
does the slowness only happen within a web site search (for example:  the search box on the myswag forum)?
do google searches exhibit the same issues?
can you provide a specific website example of where the slowness happens?
is the windows 10 system up to date? as of today's date? (check in settings, update & security, windows update, click the 'check for updates' button)

Only tried in explorer and chrome, but happens in both

Yes, not when using the web address bar or google etc

do google searches exhibit the same issues? yes

can you provide a specific website example of where the slowness happens? pretty much most sites, but I noticed it when I tried using myswag (only because it was the first search I tried....

is the windows 10 system up to date? as of today's date? (check in settings, update & security, windows update, click the 'check for updates' button)

Yes it is, I checked and I have it set for automatic updates in the early hours of the morning.

Just tried again on another website and it isn't freezing but it is taking forever to search. And by forever, I was trying to search an old thread on a car site and it took over 4 miutes before it came up.
Googled the same thread using the text as I wrote the thread years ago and it came up pretty quickly.
Not sure if it matters, but I'm on wireless internet as we are renting while our house gets built. Usually its quite fast but the wifi is hopeless, but I guess that's to be expected on a wireless modem.
Thanks for any help, its driving me nuts.
To be honest I probably wouldn't care, but it's because I wanted to search some old threads on myswag that is bugging me....... ;D
I can survive without most things, but not myswag!!!!!

is your normal browsing speed slow?

also when you are searching, is it trying to give you suggested searches, like on google.

Is it better or worse at different times of the day?

It's a weird one, that's for sure...

it sounds like a driver issue, my guess is the wireless driver got replaced with one that doesn't play nice during the upgrade. is it a name brand pc. if so download the newest drivers for your computer to suit windows 10, while your there it wouldn't hurt to update the lot.

are you running any firewall software, like bitdefender?  if so, maybe try disabling for a bit and see if that helps?

also, if possible, can you install the firefox browser and see if that helps?

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

some users on support forums have reported firefox not exhibiting this sort of issue...

Could be an anti-virus arm wrestle going on. I have Norton, but the Windows update tries to interfere with that and could be the cause of it being slow. I had had a warning pop up from Norton shortly after update....performed system scan and all seems to be ok.

It's  a driver problem. To fix it place windows 10 computer under rear wheel of car and drive over it on the way to the shop to buy a windows 7 computer.

Thanks heaps for your help everyone....

Turns out that is what it is.

I was able to fix it by

Yeah ok, I got a friend who knows what he's doing to look at it and he deleted all my antivirus software and put on the latest version of trend (apparently still slow, but not problematic...) He seemed to think an old version of Norton that came with the machine and versions of trend were all fighting.
Fait dinkum Pc's must be female!!! sorry ladies ..

Hopefully this is the end of it.
He did finish off saying "What the hell were you thinking??? Windows 10???"

Might be time to get a Mac... At least they look good.

Thanks again everyone, it was sending me mad!!!

If you think it's the AV causing issues, delete it. Windows 10 has built in Defender which is regularly update via windows updates. No need at all to have a third party AV program.
Cheers, John.

Change to Microsoft's new Edge browser and use their own Defender program and then turn off your update sharing and then see how you go-
