BIG SMILES HERE

Just home from another Variety Bash. 8)

103 cars left Newcastle last sunday, travelled 3000 k's and returned to Newcastle Saturday and raised over $1M for the kids  :cup: :cup:
We handed out a total of $80,000 in grands to 7 schools and put smiles on everyone of those kids faces.The special needs school at Woden special needs school was the highlight. It was hard not to feel for those kids, with many grown adults having to walk away seeking a private moment or two from the kids.Emotions were clear on many Bashers faces that morning.

Variety gave the bashers a big surprise when the bash navigation notes led us into Goulburn and onto Wakefield Park raceway for a few laps.Below is a pic of my 1964 Wolseley 24/80 on a hot lap of the circuit.
Many thanks to all who donated to the kids and keep those donations coming in so we can do it ll again next May.................Doin' it for the kids !!  ;D ;D

As for the hot lap, I don't recall ever seeing a vehicle having "Understeer and Oversteer" simultaneously! :o

No body roll there.... handling like a go-kart..... going down a sheer 100 foot drop.  ;D

I couldn't help myself last night..... with the little 61 Austin home.
Even though the plan is to find the Austin a new home in the coming months, i ordered a set of number plates from PPQ last night.
Black and white plates with KQQl61 on it.

Not much to choose from, but the twin Q's look like mooneyes and i'll bung a mooneyes sticker on the back window for the nimrod's who can't work it out.

Coming out of Gatton this morning, an old dear was going the other way in what looked like a black? with a white roof, HQ Premier sedan. It was cool too, whitewalls, rear venetians etc and her hair, which really stood out, was snow white.... i'm betting original owner for sure.

A few pics of the mighty Austin Lancer. WE have all the missing bits and then some to assemble this evil little Austin. Brand new windscreen rubbers, door rubbers, NOS stuff..... should, go together fairly easily.

1. The Austin is only about 7 or 8 years old in this shot. It was used as a rally car and gymkhana car.

2. The only rust, was under the boot in the beaver panel. It was cut out by the previous owner (I have the piece) and have the new bit ready to weld in.
    That's being done on Saturday afternoon.

3. Ha ha ha, frenched/sunken radio aerial, slightly pumped rear guards... she's a custom jobbie. The fabricated rear bumper will be replaced by a MK1 Cortina unit.

4. Shit a brick, these little  2 litre Nissan motors go well. If anyone bumps into the robot from Lost In Space, tell him I have his missing arm.

5. Little bit of modified bodywork under the grille for the oil cooler and lecky fan.

I had to replace the slave cylinder as soon as it got home.
It was seized solid, but a brand new one from a Datsun Stanza ($20.00)sorted that.

With a power booster on the clutch, geez its easy to use.

I was going to go white roof and a soft baby blue on the body.... but.

To do it correct, would mean a total strip down, as the inside, the engine bay, everything is painted the current blue.
It was a bare shell last time it was painted.

So, it will keep the Cleanaway Industrial Waste Bin blue with a really bright Washing Machine White roof.
The window frames on the doors will be white, rather than the blue they are now.
It will end up with hubcaps, chrome dress rings and white walls, so that will bust up the blue enough hopefully.

If you look at the B&W photo of it when it was two green, it had the chrome strip, but all the holes have been welded up and the trim deleted.
He de-badged it too, which, was done a fair bit way back when.

It you think i'm drilling out all those holes and chasing chrome trims for it.... you really are a Pottsy.  ;D

Sand a fair bit of the top coat off, but not too much, get a bit of surface rust and then clear coat. Would look Shithot.....

Another nice one at work today - this one's special, 396 big block making some serious power, with a 6-speed manual behind it.

The boss, who never gets excited by cars that come in for tunes, came back from his post-tune test drive and said that one's definitely in his top ten - this is a guy who's been tuning cars for 30 years.

I did consider that route, but the rat rod look has been done to death.

So its shiny paint, 5 on the floor, steel fatties all round and white walls.... just that old school.... cool look. (hopefully)
Look stock and go like stink.

Off to Brissie today to see my Mum and grab some bits for the Austin Powers.
