Bingo, we have a 1960 Ford Falcon coming home this week.

I ended up spending another $500 to get it, so that's trimmed the margins a tad, but hey, even a small earn is better than no earn.
I'll post some pics later in the week....  8)

It appears it was delivered on the 6th December 1960 and the first owner was Douglas Wilson of Maryborough.
It ended up in the Pittsworth/Toowoomba area after that and the mileage is on the first trip around, at 84,000 miles.

My dad had an XK wagon for a few years....maybe '63-'67....144 cu.in, 2 speed auto....absolute weapon..... ;D

It was the first of a run of 7 Falcon wagons for him...... XK, XR, XW, XC, XE, EB, EL.

I tell ya what Bird, if this was a wagon, you'd be onto this quicker than a fat kid on a sausage roll.

The front suspension and the 3 speed manual gearboxes were a bit fragile in their day, especially the very early ones.
They released them in Sept 1960 and ours has a handover date of the 6th Dec. 1960, so most likely a Nov 60 built car.
She's a very early girl, this one.

I'll be keen to go through the paperwork that comes with it after she's home.
Gunna try to bring it home tomorrow, or maybe Friday.

After the way my Brother used to drive his wagon version around the country roads and farm back in the day, I can honestly say reliability of suspension and gearbox was a non issue.
Reckon if you filmed him back then driving the Falc and then watched a mix of Offroad racing / Paris Dakar / World Rally Championship / tractor pull and V8 super cars , You'd think he invented those sports .
The only thing that Slowed that car for a few minutes,  was the left front mudguard pushed in on the tyre after an argument with a master guide post  [ the big solid round wooden ones a foot across ] .
 Nothing a normal guide post he had also knocked out of the ground used as a lever didnt fix though .

I have no issue with the early ones he listedc XK, XR, XW,... but XC onwards... my olds XC was nothing but paint holding rust together as was mates olds one.
although Jennings' XC Cobra was around for a long time, dunno how it fared.

one of these (gee Clarry has always been awesome at his light painting.. watched him doing some once... phenomenal patience with it)

I picked up the XK Falcon today.
Pretty cool old girl with LOTS of paperwork dated from 6/12/60 to now.

There was even some Esso and Atlantic branded demister tissues with it. How friggin old are they?
It appears, since 2009, its done 2,000 miles.

Can't wait to rip into this and sort out a few things.
The clutch shudders like a cat stuck on the freeway and the doesn't take up until the peddle is near level with the steering wheel.
So that's one job I wasn't aware of, but pretty easy to do.

I was going to pull the engine and repaint the engine bay.... but I just can't do it.

Whilst the engine bay paint is tired, its original and they are only original once.
So spent hours yesterday scrubbing it and this week i'll give it a polish and see how it comes up.

I found the original keys for the car in amongst the paperwork. They're in really good nick too.

Was following this bloke on the Gateway motorway yesterday. I said to the missus to get a pic as we overtake him up the bridge. Nope, he sat on the 80 kph limit all the way up and over. I had to increase my speed a tad to get the pic. He easily sat on 100 kph when we hit that zone. He gave us a wave and a blare on the klaxon as we went past.

I followed a couple of 28 Fords coming into Tin Can last Friday, both were sitting on 80 KPH without a worry.

Its a pity caravan owners couldn't learn from them.

I thought I should bung a pic of Freddy Falcon in this thread, he is a cool old guy.  8)

Pity I didn't notice the venetians hadn't clipped in correct on the r/h side. (fixed now)
I might even lower the car a little bit yet, as it sits up like 4wd.
The springs front and back had been set high way back for its life in outback Qld.

Amazing what you see on the road. Saw these 2 on the lakefield rd and they caught us up at Musgrave roadhouse.

I remember this HR  custom from the car shows, Always thought it was a bit too overdone with the paintwork, plus I didnt like the color, But at the time it was awe inspiring .
