I used to have one of these, from memory they had a 5 speed box, 1st gear was pretty much a creeper gear, normally you started in 2nd. The motor is a Rolls Royce design but most of them where made under license by Austin. The reason you had the same number of gears in reverse was because the reverse gear was in the rear diff/transfer case, there was a tail shaft from the gearbox to the rear diff/transfer case and from there another one went forward to the front diff. With its four wheel independent suspension it was really comfortable to drive, especially for a short wheelbase unit.
