Jindayne to buchan

Hi everyone has anyone traveled between Buchan and Jindayne on the Barry Way with your camper trailer.
If so what's the road like and is there good camping along the way or not suitable to tow camper trailer along this road.

G'day Rod, travelled North on the Barry Way late 2014. Other threads/mentions on here somewhere.

We towed the KK behind Hilux for that trip. For you, downhill windy narrowish until along the Snowy, then windy narrowish uphill to Black Mountain.

We had no problems, take your time, keep to your side of the road and look well ahead across the corners where you can.

A heap of camping spots along the Snowy and to avoid the rat race a bit we camped off to the west on the Pinch River, maybe 5-10mins off the Barry Way, excellent track in there.

Have a look at the old Suggan Buggan slab timber school, the way it used to be done. 

The rest of the trip either side of the down/up portions is fine.

G'day Rod, not sure when your thinking of doing your trip but it looks like the road is closed near Suggan Buggan.

We drove the road the opposite way at Xmas time, spectacular is the only way to describe it. It is mostly National Park, so we camped on the Vic NSW border between the boundaries of the two parks. It is a good dirt road sandy and in the odd spots a bit narrow. No problems towing a camper, into 4WD rarely only on steeper sections when I could feel the back wheels spinning on the loose sandy surface. Not sure now what the conditions will be like after all this rain.

This is a great part of the world and I was planning to go the other way from Buchan to Jindabyne last month, but the road was closed because of a slip.

The alternate way is via the Bonang Hwy and turn off down via McKillops Bridge.  Whilst the road is a bit hairy, McKillops Bridge is pretty speccy.

We had plans to go this way but, when we were up there, the weather was so  crap that we ended up heading along the coast instead.

The Buchan Caves Reserve is a great place to stay.  We have been there a few times over the last few years.

Great pickup re that road closure, I didn't check sites for that.

Re McKILLOPS BRIDGE west to BLACK MOUNTAIN/WULGULMERANG towing a C/T, some pieces of that road are so narrow two opposing direction vehicles CANNOT get past ea. other.

Ie - meet someone and one of you WILL be reversing. I would advise against using that bit of road towing a C/T.

Unless the road has been widened.

Alternative route suggestion if you want to see some country, travel southbound from Benambra across the Limestone Road to Wulgulmerang, I like this trip to Buchan much more than via the Snowy. (Camping at the Limestone  or Native Dog)

Edit - locals expect the slip to be repaired and the road open by the end of next week, ie Sat. 22/10/2016, check Vicroads etc to be sure.

It's amazing that full size tour buses have used this road, probably ridiculous to be more accurate.

ABC Gippsland (radio) had an interview and announcement this morning re the road, open today to local residents and to the general public next Thursday 20/10/2016.

Hi all I've been away so have not been able to reply straight away, thanks for all the info on the road and the closure, won't be through there till the 4th Nov. so road should be OK. Good suggestion on alternate ways and will be careful driving on the Barry Way road, and may divert to McKillops Bridge looking forward to see this part of the country side.
