I have a habit of looking at Disco's but never buying.
Back in 2009 I was originally looking for a late model D2 but in the end decided that for fractionally more money I'd rather have a brand new diesel JK Wrangler, and that served me very well.
Was looking for the JK's replacement a few months ago and looked at the D4 but to be honest was underwhelmed when I sat in it (the base model which is all I would be able to afford). Some elements in it actually felt flimsy & cheap which surprised me and it felt somehow smaller than I expected. In the end I decided the 200 Series suited my needs better despite Toyota's shall we say "conservative" approach to the way they spec their vehicles and not so conservative pricing.
Looking at the new Disco I'm not seeing anything that makes me regret my decision. It does look like a Territory, which looked good a decade ago but is looking a bit dated now. Definitely a backwards step in terms of styling but I guess that's what happens when they start chasing fuel economy figures.
As for the tech, I agree with what most others say here. Some tech is without doubt a good thing and makes cars (especially those pushing 3T) safer.......ABS, airbags, traction control. Others over time just have the the effect of reducing driver's basic skills, like self parking. If you can't park, which is an easily controllable manoeuvre at slow speed, then you should't be allowed to drive a car at any speed. That new reversing idea is another case of this, and to my mind also potentially dangerous. Instead if using your windows and mirrors to see where you are going and what is around you as you normally would when reversing a trailer, you will instead have all you're attention focus down in the centre of the console. It'll be a lot more difficult to monitor your surroundings while reversing using that.
