Number of gas bottles

Does anyone know what is the maximum number of 4.5kg gas bottles that can be stored on the drawbar of a camper?

You can transport 2 x 9kg. bottles loose in a vehicle, and I'm not saying it's safe, but 50 Ltrs. is the limit for that.
It's common for dual 9kg. bottle setups, but it's the space required to fit more than 2 bottles.
4 & 4.5 Kg. bottles are often fitted in a similar manner to the bigger bottles.
And they have to be out in the open, and not situated in a "crash area", on the bodywork.
As well as securely fitted, even if they are just sitting there.
I'm hoping someone with a Gas fitter ticket can give a better answer.

I have 2 4.5kg bottles on the camper now that are piped to be used on the cooker. I want to carry 1 or 2 more for the BBQ and hot water unit. These will either be piped to a quick connect or left to be removable and connected by hoses. They will be fitted in behind the stone guard beside the existing ones. The position and mounting seem ok but not sure if there is a bottle limit.

The Queensland regulations mention, Queensland limits you to two gas bottles in an enclosed vehicle.

I have read and re read the ruling, but I cannot see where it applies to gas bottles mounted on the a frame for example when they are out in the open. This is also a question would like to know, as I would rather have 3 x 4.5 kg bottles on my new camper rather than 2 x 9 kg bottles. None of which, by the way would be plumbed in.

Read just recently, and can't find it again, that a new regulation says the cylinder must be fully supported.  So sitting it on a cross member is no longer acceptable.  You need a round plate larger than the bottom of the cylinder base on top of the cross member to fully support it.

OK. After contacting the trailer manufacturer, EnergySafe Victoria, and Vic Roads I have found out this. There seems to be nothing stated regarding the amount of gas bottles you can carry. There are conditions on how those bottles are stored though. If they are fixed on the outside of your trailer, in a position with some protection from damage, and held down in an approved way it should be fine.
